Microsoft Word dominates the word processor market, but people are increasingly turning to freeware alternatives instead of spending a fortune on Microsoft Office. If you don't mind a slightly dated interface, Kingsoft Writer 2012 can likely meet all your word processing needs without breaking the bank.
If you've ever used Word 2003 you'll have no trouble getting acquainted with Kingsoft Writer 2012, as the program's interface borrows heavily from this older version of Word. A menu and a couple of toolbars adorn the top of the interface, giving access to a full complement of word processing features. We were impressed with Writer's ability to handle fairly complex formatting, and we had no trouble opening files containing tables and other objects that had been created in Word.
We did find Writer's spell-check feature to be a little annoying; if the first three letters of a word that you type don't form a word that the program recognizes, Writer will underline the word in red until you've finished typing it. This is a fairly minor complaint, however, and for the most part we found that Writer was easy to use and did everything we needed it to do. A built-in Help file provides comprehensive descriptions of the program's features. If you're in the market for a freeware word processor that can do nearly everything the big-name programs can do, Kingsoft Writer 2012 is definitely worth a look.

"A really good word processor"

Pros
- The menus are very much like the Word 2003 menus.
- Free
- The user interface (in my opinion) is better than any other various software like Open Office or Libre Office, etc.
- Can be installed seperately independent of other office applications like spreadsheet or presentation apps.
- A small footprint, the installation file is 32 MB!
- Doesn't run a bunch of updater services in the background clogging system resources
- No ads, or nothingCons
I love the old style menus, but some people like the new Microsoft office 2007+ menus. I personally hate those, so this application is perfect. If you purchase the full version, you can actually switch to this so-called new interface.
Summary
Overall I ended up installing Kingsoft applications as an alternative to Microsoft Powerpoint, Word and Excel. Strongly recommended.

This is the document editor that is most compatible to ms word, from what I tried.
Cons
Small bugs in searching, table border stiles (the border settings don't seam to do anything, but when saving in doc and opening it in word the settings were there...), etc
Summary
I didn't see any issue with compatibility until now with it (have been using it for half a year on my other computer and decided to download it on the laptop too, because of openoffice writer compatibility problems (for complex formatting: scientific papers with formulas, tables, multi columns, pictures...). I Haven't yet tried page breaks, graphics from tables and many other complex features, but it worked for everything I needed.

Smaller and faster than Word and OpenOffice Writer, and allows multiple tabs running, which saves a lot of system space and thus makes working more efficient.
The paragraph layout tool is really smart, I can make changes to line spacing, indent more easier. Love it!
