Weighing just 27MB, Microsoft Office Mobile packs in a lightweight, appealing interface all the basic document and spreadsheet editing and creation features you need, as well as solid cloud backup and storage. This new release finally brings Dropbox integration to the Android port, allowing you to seamlessly access, edit, and share supported Dropbox files as well as share links to documents in your OneDrive accounts by emailing them as links without leaving the app.
Neat interface and beautiful documents: In Microsoft Office Mobile fonts look crisp and images vivid, and the support for SmartArt Graphics and animations enable you to view and even create great-looking multimedia documents. The interface overall is smooth and streamlined, with pretty icons and a laudable unity of purpose.
Fairly easy to use: You can create Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents for work, though you'll have to do a lot of tapping. What this app is really good at is allowing you to edit on-the-go documents or spreadsheets as well as leave comments. Thanks to the resume reading feature, your document resumes at the place where you left off reading.
Dropbox integration: Apart from being able to easily access and modify documents and spreadsheets stored in your Dropbox account without leaving the app, you can now use the popular cloud storage service for storing all your Microsoft Office Mobile documents, saving you from OneDrive's limitations.
Doesn't work on tablets: You can install this mobile office suite only on a smartphone running Android 4.0 or later. By contrast, the iOS version works on the iPad as well.
Log-in problems: If you don't have a Microsoft account already and want to create one, you'll have to do it through the official website; the in-app account signup link just doesn't work, or at least it didn't for us.
Mostly for home use: To edit and save documents for your business, you need to buy an Office 365 subscription.
In spite of its limitations, Microsoft Office Mobile delivers the mobile office experience you need for creating basic documents and editing work files on the go, making a good impression with its streamlined interface, accessibility, and cross-platform support. And now that Dropbox integration is finally here, this app has become more appealing than ever.
Microsoft Office Mobile is the official Office companion optimized for your Android phone. You can access, view and edit your Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint documents from virtually anywhere. Documents look like the originals, thanks to support for charts, animations, SmartArt graphics and shapes. When you make quick edits or add comments to a document, the formatting and content remain intact.*
