"Its bad... real bad."

October 07, 2013  |  By MaximumCanadian

 |  Version: Draw-On-Screen 3.0

- Free trial to see how bad it is.

- It allows you to draw ugly squares out of about eight or nine different colours!
- Doesn't uninstall cleanly - leaves some files behind (including the desktop shortcut).
- Only accepts US currency, but why would you want to pay for this?
- Numerous EGREGIOUS mistakes. See summery below.

WARNING: If you keep the drawing on the screen long enough it MAY crash your graphics driver or make explorer lag severely.

In all honesty, this program deserves a 0 out of 5. However, the score doesn't go that low.

This program looks like it was made by student(s) learning C++ or something and wanted to make some quick cash. There's probably some open source free version of similar function out there somewhere and perhaps the only reason this/these bloke(s) get paid is because its near the top on google searches.

When being installed, there's no end-user license or anything presented like normal installations -- just a "Do you want to install this program?" dialogue box. We're not even presented with a "Do you want to place a shortcut on the desktop?" or a "Do you want to review the read-me?" option during installation. There's NO readme or anything.

Next up is the program itself. There's NO customisation at all in terms of custom colours or brushes -- like in paint. You're given eight or nine stock colours and the option to change the size of our ugly paint brush that only makes squares. It doesn't track the cursor fast enough to make a solid line if you move it around fast or even a reasonable speed. You have to crawl your cursor around to get a solid line or you'll be getting a line of squares.

The interface is a fairly simple box that despite the default settings, does not stay on top of other windows OR drawings. Left clicking while drawing mode is not advised! You may occidentally end up clicking on something else. ALSO: your settings WILL NOT be saved. There's also an option to view some instructions, however you'll only find "Unable to find instruction file." -- why include this if you don't even include an instruction file?

Uninstalling this "program" brings up a white box with "working, please wait" instead of the typical uninstaller. It doesn't even remove the desktop shortcut. So who's to say it didn't leave other files behind?

The verdict: 15$ for a program like this is a joke/scam. However, with some major improvement (such as additional customisation, inclusion of a instruction file/removing it, and others) it may be worth $5. However, in the present condition it is better left as freeware.

"Very weak and installs other software stealthily"

Not much, in fact not anything

Produces messy images composed of dots - no config options worth having - installs Incredimail mail/toolbar stealthily

Worst of all this software installs Incredimail without warning you - now maybe that software has some value, but it is certainly incredibly intrusive and obstinate, trying every trick to take over your functions and remain on your system, force a toolbar into FireFox etc. - utterly acceptable and I recommend everybody rejects any download (even much better ones than Draw-On-Screen) that tries this "stealth install" technique. In my opinion CNET should remove downloads from its listings that do this.
