Editors' review

Sales managers will appreciate how this add-on exploits Outlook's powerful Contacts feature as a basis for managing existing customers and adding new ones.

Some apps adopt the typical e-mail client interface to lend a sense of familiarity and ease of use to its functions; this one adopts the client itself. If you use and like Outlook, you'll be happy. If you rely on another e-mail client, you won't be so happy. SalesOutlook installs an unobtrusive minitoolbar to Outlook's existing toolbar. It provides quick access to the add-on's tools and features and simply folds into the user's normal everyday workflow for employing e-mail. The tool performed well in our tests. Windows opened quickly, and navigating their tabbed categories was a breeze. We liked the straightforward manner of entering new contacts and assigning identifiers--divided into both Opportunity IDs and Inquiry IDs--to allow logical tracking for follow-up and decision-making. We also appreciated how SalesOutlook consolidated a number of tasks into a single app, such as the built-in features for monitoring time and mileage dedicated to each customer and project management components. Further, the add-on exploited Outlook's primary e-mail functions for creating e-mail blasts and maintaining important contact with customers--a critical element of any CRM software.

The trial period should be sufficient for any professional to determine the add-on's suitability for his or her work. The price will scare away the small-timers, but intent CRM staff members will find SalesOutlook a nice fit in their workday, particularly if they are frequently on the go.

"What a waste of time/money (in my opinion)"

    January 12, 2014   |   By JOJACOBS

    Version: SalesOutlook CRM 9.3

    Pros

    Outlook plug-in.

    Cons

The following reflects my opinion, based on my experiences with this software package:

    - Dysfunctional
    - Extremely poor support
    - Crash intensive
    - Horrible support
    - Poorly written
    - Unbelievably bad support
    - Overpriced
    - No supported AT ALL
    - Clunky
    - Crappy support

    Summary

The following reflects my opinion, based on my experiences with this software package:

This was a HUGE waste of time/energy/money/headaches. We purchased this software thinking that it was a good idea to mate CRM with Outlook (which, by the way, we still believe is a true statement). However, this package looks to have been written by a couple of hacks, on their lunch break. It's cumbersome, crash-prone, poorly designed, and (in case you haven't picked up on it yet, EXTREMELY POORLY SUPPORTED!!! All they seem to care about is bilking you out of more money. They don't care whether you can use their software or not. Please do yourself a favor and find another solution to your CRM needs, because (in my opinion), SalesOutlook is the WORST mistake you could make, in trying to find a CRM package to help your business.

"Great in theory, make sure to test it before purchase"

    January 02, 2014   |   By globalogicom

    Version: SalesOutlook CRM 9.3

    Pros

Easy to use out of the box
    In theory its great
    Initial install support is good
    High user adoption
    Extremely high potential

    Cons

Does not work like most other CRMs.
Most customizations can only be done by code. (So not a con, if you plan for that additional cost)
    Is not relational.
Does not have true/full team security/assignment. (Probably can spend extra to get this to work like other CRM's)
What can be customized without code, is actually not that easy (no matter what they say in the pre-sales), like all other CRM's.
All support costs extra (even if its not working they way it should) and VERY expensive.
    Painful to install.
    No admin training videos.

    Summary

Highly recommend a test/trial first, as it may not be as you expect, if comparing to all other top CRM's in the market. If you can use it out of the box, and only a couple users will be using it (thus not many installs), then this might be a 4.5 star rating. Rating was based on more than 5 users and business needs more than default. No matter what they say most customizations ARE NOT possible unless you know code, don't fall for the spin. ALL support, even if its not working the way it should or the way they told you it would, will cost you extra. You need to perform a complicated install on EVERY users device, and errors will occur that you can not fix yourself, so plan on paying for support for possibly every install. If you understand all this, fully comprehend all its limitations, and plan accordingly, then this can be an incredibly powerful CRM, that can in theory be much more usable than other non-Outlook based CRM's. Potential is extremely high.

    "Poor software, HORRIBLE support!"

    August 28, 2013   |   By JOJACOBS

    Version: SalesOutlook CRM 7.0

    Pros

    Integrates into MS Outlook

    Cons

Clunky, buggy, crash-prone software. But getting support from this two-man operation is next to impossible. Once you have paid for the software, you are abandoned and left to flounder on your own.

    Summary

Struggled with this for months, and then finally gave up and went with Prophet CRM. It was a costly decision, because we had to eat the cost of SalesOutlook, but it was the only decision that was feasible. Prophet is a better product, with EXCELLENT customer support. Don't waste your time with SalesOutlook -- you WILL be sorry!
