You want to tweak your computer to look like no other... this is the program for you. You can tweak until you're blue in the face and tweak some more after that! Wonderful program after you've learned how to use it.
There is a learning curve to this program, but once mastered, not only will you tweak the templates you are downloading, you will be creating your own.
If you're like me and want something different, this is for you.
Great program, great skins--when it works
Worked for a week, then crashed
This is a very sad situation. Rainmeter is a great program with great skins. But after using it for a week, it started crashing on startup. Going to the forums, there are 2 known workarounds:
1) Try renaming C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Plugins\TopProcesses.dll (to e.g. TopProcessTemp.dll) and then running Rainmeter.
2) For Win7 - Start - cmd as administrator
Type this command: lodctr /r
Neither solution has worked for me. I don't have the time or expertise to do find a solution myself, so I guess I'll just wait until Rainmeter puts out a version that fixes this problem. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! I just got my desktop looking great, then Rainmeter just totally died on me :(. I tried re-installing, rebooting, I got nothing.

OK, so Rainmeter is once again 5 stars in my book!
Another caution: these skin files are in .rmskin format. Sometimes skins that you download are in .zip, .rar, or some other Zip-type archive. I would highly recommend that you pay attention to the file extensions. If you see any .exe or .pif files, GET RID OF THEM WITHOUT OPENING!
Can accomplish basically any desktop design that you desire while using minimal system resources, and more importantly never breaking.
Takes a while to learn, be prepared to drop a couple hours if you see a custom desktop you like and want to do it exactly.
Great program, highly recommended. Found a desktop I just couldn't resist on lifehacker.com and tried it out. Much better than my time with windowsblinds, which was buggy and a resource hog.
...uh, slight learning curve?
love it or move on!
the different designs and addons is the best thing
i don't like the sittings on it,, it must be more appear
it seems to work fine
not enough applications or its just to hard to find more
