Editors' review

ObjectBar is a customizable toolbar that allows users to add and remove various elements. We found it to be a nice addition to our Windows experience.

The toolbar itself can be customized with an assortment of themes and skins, and the ability to tweak the toolbar's contents means that the interface can be just about whatever a user wants it to be. However, the interface with which the user manages the toolbar could be better designed. It's easy enough to add and remove programs, but other functions, including changing themes and skins, aren't so intuitive. The program's lack of Help file--the Help menu just opens the Windows help--makes this especially frustrating. That said, we were able to configure ObjectBar in a way that was more or less pleasing. We appreciated the fact that we could set the ObjectBar to appear only when we moved our cursor to the top of the screen; this kept it out of the way when we weren't using it. From the ObjectBar we were able to open shortcuts, programs, and files, switch between open Windows, and perform other functions. Items from the system tray can also be added to the ObjectBar for easy access.

Overall, the program didn't blow us away, but it did perform well and we appreciated having access to so many different functions all in one spot. ObjectBar is free to try and it installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend it to all users.

"Wasted a lot of time trying to get it to work right"

    December 06, 2009   |   By squeezix

    Version: ObjectBar 2.1

    Pros

I was able to set up every single thing I wanted -- all kinds of apps, three different bouncy trays, get rid of the normal taskbar completely (was even able to replace the Windows Start button), and generally made my desktop a lot cleaner.

    Cons

It had a fatal flaw: it was =not= able to maintain its "always on top" status. And when your Objectbars regularly lose themselves under regular program windows it's a total pain. So I forfeited my work and the money I paid and deleted the product.

"Worlds worst customer service and watchout for Impulse"

    September 14, 2009   |   By Oneshotxn

    Version: ObjectBar 2.1

    Pros

    Great Hype,

    Cons

Short on contect delivery as in installing their software. Impulse (their loader) is malformed and does not work behind a firewall, and slows down system performance. I'd give them a Zero if the system would let me

    Summary

Don't waste your money, if you have any kind of install problem you are on your own. Also the rejects that write their help pages could use some lessons in courtesy and edicate. Everyone is a pirate in their eyes.

Their Impulse method of installing reads your system specs and sends it to Stardock, they do not guarentee not to use the information for gain. Also if your target system is behind a tight firewall or you can not access the internet, you may as well send your money to me, because I will give you the same performance that Stardock gave me, NOTHING! and better yet, I will not promise you that it will work and at least I will not call you a pirate either. Note, their promised 16 hours of response to a ticket is really 48 hours. Their promised 16 hours is really core business hours or two business days. 48 hours to respond to a new sales install problem is highly unreasonable.

Object Bar (demo) seems to have issues with Java 1.5/1.6 so expect a couple of crashes too.

    September 08, 2009   |   By netswing

    Version: ObjectBar 2.1

    Pros

lots of customizations available for efficient desktop management - I enjoy using this very much... I haven't found anything better... I am grateful for this ingenious little app

    Cons

development is slow but the application offers so much - why just look at the few things that don't always work just right - you have that in all softwares...

    "Not worse a trial"

    April 09, 2009   |   By antwortfuer

    Version: ObjectBar 2.1

    Pros

    absolutly none

    Cons

After install and starting first is a crash of dxwidget.exe. Demo is to limited so you can't play arround with popups etc. The Interface is old, no vista or win7 features and after a short time your system will hang.

    Summary

I know Objectbar since version 1 and i have complained the bugs and the devolpment thousend times. Since then the version number has changed but not the functionality. In fact there is no development done since 4 years now. It seems that it is always uploaded with new version number so that the user thinks it is now worse the money.
Also the functionality remembers to win95.. no Task-livepreview, no browsing of directories with preview function, limited drag and drop support, crashing.. i can't believe it. So if you really are looking for an outstanding software which has ongoing development (1 update with new functionality) then have a look to www.winstep.net and you will get the newest functionality including win7 for your xp or vista.
