Despite a couple of issues, this free program provides some helpful tools for honing your typing skills. We like that the developers have obviously made an effort to keep this program more interesting than other educational aids; the main window's background features a photograph of a winding mountain road and several picture-based icons. MaxType Lite Typing Tutor offers both Typing Test and Extreme modes. When using the former, you can practice your keyboard skills with a variety of basic exercises, including typing out song lyrics and articles. The testing pane shows a virtual keyboard and highlights all keystrokes as you go, then displays statistics such as speed and accuracy. Once you feel confident, you can either take an exam or type against a computerized opponent in Extreme mode. However, we found it ironic that some of the instructions contain grammatical errors. Still, since it is free, folks who need to brush up on their typing might find this utility worth a try.Publisher's description
From AskMeSoft :MaxType Lite is a multifunctional typing tutor. This program allows you not only to test and practice your typing skills with any TXT file, but also to print out your test diplomas (statistical data will give you the information of about 20 parameters of your typing) and even replay the MTR-record file of your own typing. The built-in extreme typing mode will help you increase your typing speed.

Version: MaxType Lite Typing Tutor 1.6.22
Pros: You can put in your own text files.
Cons: It doesn't give realistic typing situations. The .txt's it has for you to type, do not have double spaces after periods, and also it won't allow you to space after a word at the end of the line, which you would normally have to type in. So if you try to type as you would in a real life situation, it thinks you are making mistakes.

Version: MaxType Lite Typing Tutor 1.6.22
Pros: The programming includes a layout of the keyboard and appropriate diagram for which fingers and/or hands to use for each keystroke
Cons: When testing speed. The program doesn't use a space, or the enter/return stroke between lines, resulting in errors and slowing the typeing speed.
Summary: The afore mentioned bug is enough to make the whole program worthless. How can anyone learn to type, or adequately test their speed when the program doesn't work within proper typeing techniques?
