The Laminator is an engineering program for Windows, performing comprehensive analysis of laminated composite plates using classical theory. It calculates material properties, stresses, strains, and various failure loads.
  • Pros

    • Analyzes laminated composite plates using classical laminated plate theory.
    • Calculates various ply and laminate material properties and matrices.
    • Evaluates ply failure using Maximum Stress, Strain, Tsai-Hill, Hoffman, Tsai-Wu.
    • Includes a micromechanics calculator for estimating lamina properties.
    • Supports command line execution for convenient batch processing.
  • Cons

    • Assumes user familiarity with classical laminated plate theory.
    • Supports only older Windows operating systems (XP, Vista, 7, 8).
    • Analysis scope limited to classical laminated plate theory.
    • Lacks explicit integration with CAD or FEA software.
    • No mention of cloud-based or collaborative features.

Developer’s Description

Analyze laminated composite plates according to classical laminated plate theory.
The Laminator is an engineering program written for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 that analyzes laminated composite plates according to classical laminated plate theory. Familiarity with such analysis is assumed. Input consists of ply material properties, material strengths, ply fiber orientation and stacking sequence, mechanical loads and/or strains, and temperature and moisture loads. Output consists of apparent laminate material properties, ply stiffness and compliance matrices, laminate "ABD" matrices, laminate loads and mid-plane strains, ply stresses and strains in global and material axes, and load factors for ply failure based on Maximum Stress, Maximum Strain, Tsai-Hill, Hoffman, and Tsai-Wu failure theories. A micromechanics calculator is also included for estimating lamina properties for given fiber and matrix properties. The program can also be run from the command line for batch processing.
