The Christian life is a battle a continuous fight against the devils weapons of doubt, temptation and worldliness. He is far more powerful than we are, but God has given us a weapon against which he cannot stand! The armour of God starts and ends with the belt of truth and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:14-17).

In his book When I Dont Desire God, John Piper exhorts the reader to take up Bible memorization to stand against our adversary:

The joy-producing effects of memorizing Scripture and having it in my head and heart are incalculable. The world and its God-ignoring, all-embracing secularism is pervasive. By breaking down verses into smaller chunks and allowing you to reveal them piece-by-piece, memorization comes more naturally. We have also incorporated a font called San Forgetica designed using the principles of cognitive psychology to help memorization.

I spend this much time on Bible memory because I believe in the power of the indwelling Word of God to solve a thousand problems before they happen, and to heal a thousand wounds after they happen, and to kill a thousand sins in the moment of temptation, and to sweeten a thousand days with the drippings of the honeycomb.
