This comprehensive checksum calculator is an efficient and straightforward tool that couldn't be much easier to use. HashCalc's dialog-sized interface prioritizes function over aesthetics, with a clean layout that lists input options and results without unnecessary frills. While it may lack visual polish, it more than makes up for it with its simplicity and utility.

The program comes with a concise, single-page Help file that adequately explains its functions, though it assumes users already have some knowledge of checksum calculations and their purposes.

The display includes a text box where users can input the file path, text, or hex data they wish to check. Beneath this, 13 widely-used Checksum algorithms—such as MD5, SHA-1, and CRC32—are listed, each with a corresponding checkbox. Users can easily select which algorithms to use, enabling HashCalc to compute multiple checksums at once. Operating the program is as simple as dragging and dropping a file into its interface; the app immediately calculates and displays the results for the selected algorithms. This real-time feedback is a major plus, saving users from cumbersome file-upload dialogs or slow processing times.

Beyond file checksums, HashCalc also supports text and hex string inputs, further expanding its utility. For those working with Hash Message Authentication Codes (HMACs), the program allows users to input a text or hex key before dropping in the relevant data file. The process is quick and seamless, providing reliable results within moments.

Bottom Line

While HashCalc's functionality is generally excellent, we must note one minor drawback: the program lacks a one-click option to export all computed checksums to a text file.

Currently, users must manually select and copy each checksum individually, which can be time-consuming for large batches of files. Adding a bulk copy or export feature would significantly enhance its usability, particularly for professionals dealing with multiple files regularly.

Despite this limitation, HashCalc is an invaluable tool for system administrators, file traders, and anyone who needs to verify file integrity. Its speed, accuracy, and ease of use make it a must-have for verifying data transfers, ensuring that files haven't been corrupted or tampered with during transit.

Best of all, it’s freeware, providing high-level functionality without any cost. For those who need a simple yet effective checksum calculator, HashCalc delivers exactly what it promises.
