Editors' review

Turning your passion into a small business is a very difficult task. But staying on top of the paperwork might just kill you. Fortunately, inFlow Inventory Software offers users an opportunity to organize every aspect of their business.

This freeware program has a clean interface that may be intuitive for people familiar with other inventory software programs. However, if you are not, there is an excellent training video and sample setup waiting to guide you through the program. inFlow is dominated by four major tabs for organizing a business. Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, and Reports each offer an interconnected way to stay on top.

By drawing information on customers, warehouse stock, pending orders, sales, and more, these tabs sync up nicely with a wealth of options that are certain to be useful for most small business managers. From providing customers quotes, looking at warehouse stock, and running reports on last month's sales, we were thoroughly impressed with this program's array of options and how simple they were to navigate.

inFlow's many options may not find use in every type of business, but this versatile program can be tailored to nearly any small business. We highly recommend this download for its ease of use, numerous options and free download.

"GRAB THE FREEWARE BUT TAKE NOTE"

    February 25, 2014   |   By kaycey

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Going through this software just show how complex inventory management software development can be. The developer is apparently a team work and has put in much work. Offering a free version is most commendable.

    Cons

I tried adding 2 products and creating 1 sale order but why does it takes seconds just to generate a report on that?

How will it perform when you have hundred not to mention thousands of items plus numerous sales on a daily basis - which is quite common among businesses?

At first glance I like the tabbed interface and the forward and backward arrows - all operating like a web browser. But I am not sure if in actual usage when records grow having different modules like sale order, purchase order, inventory etc all appearing in those tabs can be quite disorientating.

The Inventory is sub-classed into Product Category, Products, Product Pricing, Current Stock and more. Sale Order, Purchase Order and Work Order are also accessible under Inventory module.

    This again is disorientating.

    Summary

It is hard to judge such a complex software adequately because of complexity and also different developers might design it differently.

However it looks like this software is okay for businesses that do not require fast processing and simple interface - simplicity being the ultimate sophistication according to Steve Jobs - in inventory control.

If a user is looking far ahead to use an inventory software for an expanding business, it is better to study how other systems work.

Users of inventory software should consider trying out some POS systems with rich reporting because a good POS system should already have such inventory management and reporting built in.

The speed of performance is very important because the user (of inventory software) is essentially wanting to know how his goods are performing. And this means resource-hungry report generation.

Based on my experience it takes a well-designed system 10 minutes or more just to generate a complex report, if there are thousands of items in the inventory and hundred of sales per day.

A slow system just cannot make it.

As one reviewer has already pointed I want to emphasize that the freeware version allows you save 100 products and customers only. This limitation is hidden in the Publisher's extended description so users might miss this.

I am hoping that the publisher will state this limitation very clearly in the main window of the software otherwise some users might be happily using it only to find that they have max out on the number of products and customers.

I would think most businesses would easily have more than 100 products and customers over time, so this freeware is effectively not only useless but may cause users to waste a lot of time and effort learning, entering data and using it. Please be more upfront about this limitation.

"Best bang for your buck and Great Customer Service!"

    July 02, 2013   |   By tzcarey

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Here is the BIG selling point - CUSTOMER SERVICE! Even as a trial user they answered all my questions quickly, politely, and accurately.

Think of it like going to a restaurant. There are a lot of them that have good food but how many couple that with excellent service? Those are the ones you will keep going back to.

I tried 11 different inventory programs and this was by far the best. I needed something that would handle intermediate, think manufactured, products. inFlow was the only one that had this built in without doing some funky work-a-rounds and do not cost over a $1000.00. In fact it cost half that much.

If you install the free standard version and then upgrade to the free Professional version you have unlimited number of products to play with. Even if you do not need the Pro version it is great for playing with to see all the features.

    Cons

It takes a small amount of time to get used to their terminology for different things and how they all fit together. However in no case did I get stuck for more than a few minutes trying to figure out their mindset.

My biggest problem was trying to throw off the shackles of my old ideas and fully embrace those of inFlow.

    Summary

If you need an excellent inventory tool and in particular if you have a manufacturing competent I found nothing that comes close to inFlow. I just wish I had found it a couple years sooner.

Also contrary to what some people have written this is a full fledged heartfelt review that is voluntary and unpaid.

"Too many fake Paid customer reviews here..."

    June 01, 2013   |   By Joshua_Friend

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Simple, but could be much better.

    Cons

Too many fake 5 star paid generated customer reviews.

Need a-lot of improving then it will get a real 4 star rating by users.

    Summary

Over 350,000 users world wide or how many download and installed. The half truths put me off from using this software.

"Great for my small retail clothing business!!!!"

    May 27, 2013   |   By nikkifahr

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

I love the easy to use interface, I did not use any of the tutorials. btw, awesome quickbook-esque report generation. You can generate reports of the inventory you have with your cost and what it is to be sold at, great for projecting profits and viewing actual profits. I use this inventory system to track sales, to know what types of items sell well and for accounting purposes. I have a low stock, (6 or less of each different item) High turnaround (like selling out of items over the weekend) retail business. And yes, I do a lot of data entry, but being able to make copies of inventory items and changing a few things here and there is a time saver! Also, if you have mark down items, when you enter your sales order info, you can adjust the price there, you dont have to go into inventory items individually to mark down. Most of the stuff I stock can not be re-ordered, so I will not be using this software to let me know when stocks are low. Just FYI to any potential user reading reviews!

    Cons

I have yet to find any cons for the way that I use this software.

    Summary

    Updated on May 27, 2013

CON for free addition: you can only add 100 inventory items, will eventually upgrade, but for now, generating reports and entering pertinent info into excel for record keeping purposes.

    "Premium Version is Great!"

    May 10, 2013   |   By Lewis-Aquatech

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Tracks everything and is very user friendly. Takes little time to create reports and customize to your liking. Everything is self explanatory and easy for new employees to adapt to. Tracks everything we need, and entering new data is a breeze. Allows you to change field names on just about everything to help match your current personal inventory vocabulary/vernacular which helps limit mistakes. Allows for transparency with product movement through multiple user mode. Also, you can create new fields so you can add new fields to track if the program doesn't offer it already. Finally, if you have a problem tech support responds quickly to resolve any issues.

    Cons

Few minor bugs which are taken care of through updates.

    Summary

We enjoy this program. It's quick and easy. We have fully customized it to match our needs. The ease of report creating is what we like most about the program. Through this we can see our seasonal demands and get our employees the information they need.

    "The Best DIY Inventory Software."

    April 14, 2013   |   By kelv_tks

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Inflow delivers a cost-effective Inventory Management Software for people who are willing to take on a Do-It-Yourself approach, instead of relying on expensive consultants marketing other software.

Their responsive and awesome technical support delivered by an online forum gave me confidence in trying out back in 2011.

Over the 2 years, Inflow has performed several updates that improved functionality, and existing users get to enjoy them with no extra charge - says something about what they believe in..

Today, we have 9 users running on Inflow and loving it!

    Cons

If I had to point out a con ... it'll be the lack of integration with an accounting software, compared to an ERP suite or a comprehensive accounting software that includes inventory.

    "BRILLIANT PRODUCT THE BEST"

    April 09, 2013   |   By paul_stanton1985

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Downloaded this product today and purchased the full edition straight away. If your looking for a simple straight forward product that does what it says this is it look no further. We as a company have tried many different inventory products from ABC inventory to using quickbooks both programmes do not come close to this one. It is an absolute credit to its developers and creators. Cant wait to use more of the facilities inflow has to offer.

    Cons

Honestly the biggest CON about this is the amount of time i have wasted on other inferior products trying to make out they are anything like this programme.

    Summary

so in summary, please do not waste your time with other software if your looking for an inventory programme that's easy to use look no further.

"Very user friendly across different nationalities."

    March 18, 2013   |   By MotifFairTrade

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

I downloaded the free version a few days ago and have been playing around in it to see how easily it could be used by a non-English mother tongue user. Now have the Regular Edition. It seems very intuitive using clear English, well designed icons and familiar keystrokes. My staff in Bangladesh will now work with the free version for a while and I'll upgrade it later in the year.

    Cons

Not found any yet in these few days but will update if necessary.

    Summary

Thank you for a very clear and intuitive user experience. There are many small businesses in developing countries I'll recommend it to.

"The best software I found so far"

    January 29, 2013   |   By suneokobayashi

Version: inFlow Inventory Free Edition 2.5.1

    Pros

Comparing 3 softwares and found out this one is the best. It is quite surprising since I did not expect the free software to be this good. The linkage of inventory with Sales and Purchase is wonderful. The basic setting is very easy and it is easy to understand the logic as well. So far it is the best I found for small business. I am trying the 30-day trial now.

    Cons

The custom documents (custom Sales Order, custom Invoice, etc) are difficult to create. I even tried to just copy (without changes) from the template and upload again as my custom document but it fails (error when I try to print preview from Sales Order). Should provide easier way to do it since the existing template does not fill my requirement.

    Summary

Excellent and easy to use software with a little custom documents improvement needed.
