From Handform:

gMote allows you to record gestures (mouse motions) and assign them to frequently performed tasks. Use gestures to bring up programs, Web sites, control your browser, media player, and clipboard. You can even assign your own key combinations to a gesture - make text bold by drawing a 'B', lock your computer with an 'L' - it's fully customisable and free. Version 1.31 is a bug-fixing release.

  • "A gesture is all it takes"
  • Version reviewed: gMote 1.31

Quickly create mouse gestures that work in most programs with this easy-to-configure freeware. gMote's dual-pane configuration interface makes it a snap to create and program mouse gestures. This program makes a good effort to help new users. On first run it reminds those who pass on the tutorial that it is always available in the Help menu. On start it also prompts to upgrade to the latest version.

gMote is one of the easiest to use mouse gesture tools we've tested. Press the create button, make your mouse gesture in the test window, and then use a pull-down to assign the one of the 30-plus actions. The actions center on browser, media player, and word-processing commands. However, program execution, Web site selection, and hot-key combinations are also easily added actions. To make sure normal mouse movements don't invoke gesture actions, users chose a key combination to hold as they make the gesture. The gesture draws a temporary line on the screen to help users make the correct movement. The app then helpfully displays the gesture in a pop-up box before invoking the action. Gestures are easily saved in sets and are as easily deleted when no longer needed.

We liked that gMote warns users when new gestures are too similar to older ones. This is freeware that fills a very specific need and does it with a minimum of fuss or confusion. This program will appeal to novices and experienced users looking to add mouse gestures to speed computer use.

    "Media Control didnt work..."

by patyork on April 18, 2009

Pros: I love the idea, and gMote has a very sophisticated yet simple interface.

Cons: Media control did not work, had to create a series of event emulation programs (i.e. media_nextrack.exe, media_previoustrack.exe) but it suits my computer use to a T.

Summary: Get it, youll love it.

"Gestures for places where there were no gestures before"

by Mrsone on April 12, 2009

Pros: Add mouse gesture functionality to almost anywhere in Windows
Create custom gestures for a variety of actions, including opening folders, launching files, and controlling media players
Save gesture groups for different sets of programs or work tasks

Cons: Creating gestures can be tricky; program requires some precision mouse maneuvers
May conflict with programs with gestures built-in (exclusion solve this)
You must save gesture sets or else the program will forget them

Summary: Gmote allows Windows users to use mouse gestures anywhere. Mouse gestures use movements with the mouse to execute commands. If you have this feature in your favorite browser, then you already know how useful it is to be able to move forward, backwar... read more >>

    "Easy to use"

    by rd731 on April 6, 2009

Pros: I disagree with the user reviews posted here. I think that gmote is very easy to understand and use. It saves time, no more having to click through multiple windows to get to where i want to be, it allows me to clear my desktop.

Cons: it could be a little less precise, but this is a very minor flaw.

    "Great idea...questionable execution"

by rundmv on November 20, 2008

Pros: The idea is sound; user-created mouse gestures for programs and browsers alike. I liked the idea of being able to use the same mouse gestures across multiple browsers and even customize some system tasks and program commands.

Cons: They didn't always work. I found that the gestures had to be too precise and found myself wasting the time I was hoping to save my having to make the gesture multiple times. There could have bee better instructions or in-program tips/tutorials.

Summary: The glitches could have been caused by human error or by my system configuration...or it could be a faulty product. Either way, if it doesn't work for whatever reason, I can't use it and so I removed it from my computer.

"Gmote does not work when you're using a Wacom tablet"

    by Navel134 on November 15, 2008

Pros: Very cool program when I am using a mouse.

Cons: Program does not work when the Wacom Tablet is attached to my computer. Because I get RSI when using a mouse too often, I am forced to uninstall this very nice program. Pity.

Summary: Program does not work when the Wacom Tablet is attached to my computer. Because I get RSI when using a mouse too often, I am forced to uninstall this very nice program. Pity. But besides that, I can advice this program to everybody.
