Word Counter is a Macintosh OS X application that performs a word count and a character count. It can work alone or in conjunction with Apple's own TextEdit application via a small floating window. Text can be typed, pasted, or dragged into the window. Word Counter can handle both plain text and rich text files and it can automatically update the count based on a user-definable time interval. This program may be useful for writing a paper or an abstract that sets a specific limit on the number of words or characters allowed.

What's new in this version:

  • Vastly improved speed of all counts (previously intolerable waits have been reduced to a few seconds)
  • Improved accuracy of word counts
  • Now automatically switches back to TextEdit after pressing the word count icon in the floating TextEdit window
  • Choosing TextEdit option now brings TextEdit forward automatically
  • Window locations are now preserved between launches for all windows (except the help window)
