For users accustomed to online wikis like the Web service Wikipedia, this freeware app is a great find. Whether you're into comparative literature or computer programming, you're going to need to take and organize notes. The big bonus with WikidPid is that, like Wikipedia, you can link notes from one to another in various paths, but like Notepad, everything is localized.
The layout will be familiar to users of Notepad and the more advanced Notepad analogues like NoteTab Light. The left pane is a tree of nodes, while the main window displays the wiki page you're currently viewing. The trick is getting familiar enough with the wiki format. Once the user is comfortable with it, though, WikidPad helps you wikify any aspect of your work, or even your life. The stand-alone, open-source app sports some useful features to help you along, including the absolutely essential on-the-fly linking. This occurs based on CamelCase and other criteria outlined in the included WikidPad documentation. Reading said documentation is equally essential before using the app, and the app could benefit from some clear and concise tutorials, or links to ones online.
Even with this steep learning curve, WikidPad's utility can't be understated. If you find it works well for academic classes, it's easy to use the software to track information, schedules, and news for athletic teams, community projects, and other personal pursuits.

What makes wikidPad different from other notepad/outliner applications is the ease with which you can cross-link your information. Links in a wiki are created by typing in WikiWords. A WikiWord is any mixed case word typed into the editor. To-do List or JohnDoe are example WikiWords. The term wiki means 'quick' in Hawaiian, and wikidPad is all about quickly linking your information together. Features include on the fly WikiWord linking, auto-completion, attribute based document indexing, incremental search, text styling, export to HTML, auto-save.
Version 1.13 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, and bug fixes.

Version: WikidPad 1.13
Pros: I had experience with WikiPedia and was looking to start my own wiki for the community and then stumbled across this. It took a bit of getting used to, and had to devise a way to not end up with duplicate node names, but now I use it all the time, and it's far easier to keep everything organized. I now use WikidPad for my programming and keeping track of all sorts of random bits of info.
Cons: The only real drawback is that you have to manualy delete every node one at a time, and you can't just shift click and hold a series of nodes, or just erase all the parentless nodes all at once.
