Publisher's description
From Latshaw Systems :Web based database application for storing and viewing company directory information. Users access via their web browser (no need to install on every machine) and can view 4 directories of information. Employees, Departments, Vendors, and Links. Eliminates updating and distributing paper lists of employees extensions. Use the Vendors directory for everything from parts suppliers to local fast food restaurants all stored in a central location. Use the Links directory to give employees a list of all known network resources and shares. Management of the lists are also handled via the browser and can be password protected to limit who can make changes to the directory. The header logo and title can be customized to display your company's logo and name.

Version: Web Directory 1.1
"Finally! a useful off-the-shelf web based app!"
Pros: Finally! a useful web based app that we didn't have to fork out thousands to have someone custom program. Our network admin installed it and had it up in 5 minutes. Our HR admin used to spend many hours updating our company directory and handing out paper copies every time someone was hired or fired, but this thing does so much more. Some of it's best features aren't even advertised. We set up a vendor category of local restaurants that we use for business luncheons and come to find out, when you click on the address, it takes you to maps.google.com and shows you where it is!
Download.com should set up a "web-based" application category. This is definitely the kind of thing businesses are looking for. Setup once on one server, and the whole company is ready to connect from their browser!
Cons: After installation, evidently the administrator needs to setup "modify" permissions for the data folder by logging on the server. This wasn't well documented but the good thing is that when you try to access the app the first time, it gives you detailed instructions on what to do with screen shots and all. I emailed Latshaw Systems and evidently the installation program can't be made to perform this action as it's a security issue with Microsoft. It must be done manually by the administrator. Since the app gave visual instructions, even our semi-novice admin did it in 30 seconds.
