The Request Management System is designed to move users' requests from inception to completion. The main uses of rms are for IT service requests where users enhancement requests drive 65% of IT software spending. rms fills the gap between project management systems for controlling implementation of major projects and defect tracking systems. It has three main parts: An easy-to-use form where users compose requests and attach supporting files; a workflow engine that moves the request from origination to completion; and an e-mail notification system that alerts all participants in the process that work has arrived for them to do. To avoid maintenance costs, rms uses a Web browser without any software installed on users’ computers. All set up and administrative functions use a “point and click” administrative tool avoiding the need to learn API details and scripting languages. Unlike many workflow tools that take weeks or months to implement, rms can be up and running in hours.
