CNET Editors' review
This utility searches and replaces text without opening files, though it supports only plain ASCII text files.
TexRep's straightforward tabbed interface is the epitome of user-friendly. Not a simple single-file tool, this program will search and replace text over multiple files. One of TexRep's best features is the almost instantaneous display of all eligible files in a directory. You can easily narrow down the files listed with an extension filter. More powerful is a feature to search over entire directories, with results filtered by size or file date.
Once you choose the files to search, constructing the find-and-replace terms is very easy. Text search filters make TexRep more flexible than similar applications. You can filter by letter case and whole word, or by partial word matching. Search-and-replace proved to be effective and quick in our tests. The option to back up original files during the search-and-replace operation is a nice touch for this application.
Due to the nature of text formats, TexRep is unable to handle most major word processor files. But users who work often with text files will find this freeware efficient and effective.
