CNET Editors' review
TED Notepad provides users with a tool to quickly compose documents. While it has some excellent features, it also has a few missing pieces that make it an uneven experience.
The program's interface will look familiar to anyone who has ever used a computer's Notepad program. The program's large, open screen and command menus along the top will be second nature. To anyone unfamiliar, there is a useful Help file available. In many ways, TED is simpler than other word-processing software. Users just start typing and can alter the document using the menus above. However, we didn't like some of the limiting aspects of this program, such as its inability to change the font, size, and color of the text. However, for users unconcerned with that, there are plenty of other functions to love. The program offers all of its editing, tools, and search options as a menu or as a hot key, which is an improvement over some of the competition. One feature we enjoyed was the hot-key option to convert text from or to Unix or MAC files. This can be very appealing to users frustrated by difficult conversions of those types.
While we would have liked more control over the text, this freeware program proved to be a good match for users interested in speed and hot-key ease and we recommend it for those people.

"Great! Keeps what's good in Notepad, adds more"
Version: TED Notepad 5.4.2
Pros
CONTAINS AUTOMATIC TIMED BACKUPS OF TEXT FILES. No more losing data because you forgot to save -- this was the ONLY good, small editor I found that has this feature! Good set of text-manipulation utilities. Smart, clean design.
Cons
Lacks bells and whistles of other editors, but I need a simple small editor most often.
I use more powerful, resource hungry editors when needed.Summary
EVERY text editor should automatically save your work periodically! Who doesn't lose data when the computer goes down for whatever reason? This is the best notepad replacement that has this feature. Not even fancier, higher-memory editors like Notepad++ have it! Recommended.

"Fantastic text editor--features without bloat"
Version: TED Notepad 5.4.2
Pros
Fast. Lots of unique features--statistics, navigation, remove dups, change case, modify start and ends of lines, . etc etc.
Cons
No bookmarks, no tabbed interface, no unlimited undo.
Summary
Have replaced Win Notepad with this and have not looked back. More easily and quickly doing what I used to do on Notepad... and so much more. If the cons are a deal breaker for you try Notepad++ or TextPad, but both lack many of TED's features.
