Remo Recover Free Edition is great at finding lost files, but it only lets you recover a rather small amount of lost data in the free version and makes you wait a while to do it.
Remo Recover Free Edition sports a nifty interface that looks like it was made for Windows 8's smooth, tiled layout. In order to find your lost files, the program has to create a disk image file and then scan that file separately to find your lost data. The whole process took about an hour for a 250GB drive that was one-third full. The program found some lost files, but it only let us recover 1GB of them -- which isn't much if you're looking for lost music, video, or photo files. You have to upgrade to the paid version to get more. We were able to preview the lost files prior to recovery and sort them based on their name, size, date, and file type. Apart from being able to efficiently restore files on a hard drive, the program supports a multitude of other devices you can restore files from, such as external USB drives, FireWire drives, memory cards, digital cameras, and mobile devices. Recovering files deleted from the command prompt, as well as those deleted using "Shift + Delete" is no problem, either. Remo can also help in situations where you lost files due to an improper PC shut-down, too -- something that can happen even to the best of us. The program does take time to search for lost or deleted files, but you can always save the current recovery session and continue at a later time.
Even though Remo Recover Free Edition is super limiting, it can still be useful if you need to urgently retrieve some important files that you lost. If you need to retrieve more than 1GB worth of data and don't mind paying for it, you should look into upgrading to one of the paid versions of this program.

Even after paying for the basic edition it wouldn't recover the files on my hard drive, only show them to me. There Tech support didn't provide any thing useful and refused a refund when I had to download something better. If you need data recovery software get this http://www.easeus.com/ It worked wonderfully, I had a small hiccup and the tech support figured it out right away even offering to do a remote session if need be. I got all my data back uncorrupted with the file tree and everything intact after a partion failure made it unreadable.
Avoid at all costs, no refunds even when the software fails you.
On initial scan, their site stated I had over 1800 issues with my computer so I purchased it. It did the scan and found nothing wrong with my system. Also, they set you up with a monthly recurring subscription which was not advertised on initial purchase.
The software did recover all my files from a reformatted external drive.
Using the demo I was able to recover all files from a formatted external hard drive. However, upon saving the files, each time it would get to a bad or corrupted file/sector on the external drive, it would stop with the message that it saved successfully. I contacted support and they said they would put their development team on it. 18 days later I was helped by a developer, who clearly did not spend two weeks delving into the matter, since he asked what the problem was, to refresh him since he read it earlier but could not remember everything. At $179 for the product you would expect better customer service and support. Long wait times between support emails. No set appointment times, but just general time slots and then waiting. No detailed updates for the long wait. After providing my feedback on their support I did not get an apology but simply a statement that my experience is not normal and they will rectify this in the near future. Poor customer service.
The product worked, but the support was poor. Your product is ultimately only as good as your support.
I wanted to thank Remo guys for providing this recovery product FREE!!!... I spend too much time and dollars to get good recovery software, but no benefit. Before trying out this software I was little concerned about system data. I thought that it might be a hoax, so I backup existing data. I got a big relief when it successfully recovered my accidentally deleted files...Looking forward to buy it's licensed version?
