CNET Editors' review
PrimoPDF 4 converts just about any file type to a PDF, using the source program the file was created with and its print command. Two new changes make the program easier to use and more useful. The interface redesign is definitely easier to navigate, and users can now choose to email the PDF instantly after its creation.
The conversion process from whatever document is on your screen to PDF is quick and efficient. Other features include a security feature, which allows the user to wrap the PDF in 40-bit or 128-bit encryption, PDF merging, and password protection. The user also can restrict editing of the new PDF, leaving comments and making other changes.
Primo's size is surprisingly large for such an unobtrusive app, and it's absolutely necessary to launch the read-me file at the end of installation, since the application loads no icons and leaves no other visible traces on your machine, except in the Start menu's All Programs.

"Excellent!"
Version: PrimoPDF 4.0.1
Pros
It is easy to use and actually does what one would expect of this type of product. It's conversion properties make it a bona fide application for those seeking professionalsm and ease of use.
Cons
What's not to like? It works -- easily and well
Summary
I have used Adobe from its inception and have never been happy with it. It is over-priced and does not do a fraction of what this product does. It makes me very happy to be productive, professional and to have some money in my pocket for my efforts -- racing my deposit to the bank Adobe is a sad thing. If all they want are the wealty and/or business class buyers, they should discontinue their free Reader and notify the less financially and less technically saavy not to bother visiting their site.

"Not up to expectations"
Version: PrimoPDF 4.0.1
Pros
I actually liked and used this program when I was running 32-bit Windows XP. It seemed to do the job, and was unobtrusive.
Cons
The bad thing is that I have since switched to 64-bit Vista. I downloaded the installer from download.com and it informed me that I would have to go to the publisher's site to get a 64-bit installer. I would have preferred a 32 bit/64 bit option at Download.com, but that's not relavant. The installer ran fine, but I have not been able to get any output at all from it. I've watched the print queue for the Primo driver, and I see my document pop in, but it goes right away without asking me where I want to save it. The best I can determine, all of my attempts have gone off to The Big Bit Bucket never to be seen again. I'd like to go back to using Primo, but instead, I've moved on to a solution that installed on Vista-64 from the version I downloaded from Download.com and works just fine.

"How did I live without it"
Version: PrimoPDF 4.0.1
Pros
The prior version was good, this version is even better.
It really takes no thinking to create a PDF from any software product.
Cons
At the moment, I'm happy.

"Good Utility if you really need all these features."
Version: PrimoPDF 4.0.1
Pros
This utility includes almost every feature in a PDF printer driver that you could ever need. It is totally free and not limited or crippled in any way. It is not a trial, it is the complete unlimited package.
Cons
This is overkill for most users. A 19megabit download for a printer driver? For a simpler solution download Bullzip PDF freeware. It has all the same features in under 4MB. Also, PDF Writer and Cute PDF are free but no encryption.

"How does this crapware bloat my Word document?"
Version: PrimoPDF 4.0.1
Cons
How did PrimoPDF take a 285K Word document and turn it into a 1.85M PDF file!? When I examined the contents in Notepad, I found so much unneeded inserted spaces and other unnecessary characters, I found out why PrimoPDF isn't so primo! I'm sticking with my tried and true Adobe Acrobat 6.0.6! I know Acrobat works!
