PowerTicker (formerly MacTicker), is a simple Internet application that allows you to view free stock market information provided online by financial Web sites around the world. You can watch any number of stocks roll by on the ticker, or call up a detailed report for each of your favorites. As it updates, it shows stock changes right on your desktop.

New features in this version include complete Portfolio Management, customizable email based alerts, and automatically updated stock, mutual fund, index, and currency data, delivered to a desktop ticker from exchanges around the world. Also, the fully customizable ticker bar delivers automatically updated stock quotes directly to the your desktop, while the personal portfolio manager takes this information and uses it to calculate the performance of your investments. Based on the number of shares held and the original purchase price, the portfolio manager calculates the gain or loss for each of the individual securities held, and then summarizes this information to provide performance data for the portfolio as a whole.

Note: This downloadable version of PowerTicker is configured to run in demonstration mode until you enter a valid serial number. An unregistered copy of PowerTicker runs for only 15 minutes before it quits, but otherwise the program allows you to evaluate all of its features before you decide to purchase a serial number. The registration fee for the full version is $29.95. For registered MacTicker users, the purchase price of the upgrade is $9.95.
