Publisher's description
From Twiddlebit Software :This Windows application helps you create a project plan by entering tasks and resources, adding holiday information, and creating dependencies among tasks. Plan will calculate the entire project schedule and includes a display of Gantt-chart and critical-path calculations. The program also can be used as an inexpensive Microsoft Project file viewer, since it can read MPP, MPD, and MPX files. Note, however, that Plan isn't simply a Microsoft Project viewer, since it also can update and recalculate projects and if necessary write them back in Microsoft MPD format. A separate version also is available for Pocket PC. Use Plan for Windows as a standalone application or in conjunction with Pocket Plan for Pocket PC or other handhelds. This option allows you to create project plans on your PC and then transfer the data to your Pocket PC or handheld, where you can continue to work on your plan.

Version: Plan for Windows 2.07
"Clever and robust little program"
Pros: I strongly recommend this product. It has very good value if you need to manage personal projects, or even if you have to do some planning for your home office or small business.
Obviously this is a light product, but the compromises which have been made seem mostly intelligent. I like its Gantt view very much: it is very customizable, and practical even on small screens.
Easy to install, no-hassle trial version, good user interface. Very clever export function to Microsoft Outlook: your project tasks can be converted to Outlook tasks, so you can get an Outlook alert whenever a task is supposed to begin.
I started by looking for a free product, and chose to buy this one instead. If you do not want to pay through the nose for some bloated piece of software whose features will mostly go unused, this should definitely be on your shortlist.
Cons: Many usual keyboard shortcuts do not work on this product: some dialog boxes will not accept the Enter or Escape key, for instance. You cannot type a task directly into a cell as you would do with Excel, etc. This is a bit irritating and causes many unwanted hand movements between mouse and keyboard.
Tasks can be input through three different modes: work and rates, rates and dates, work and dates. It gives you powerful alternatives, but it is not very intuitive for the casual user.
Do not expect a PERT view or a calendar view (apart from Gantt). Two significant improvements would be: 1) to allow changes in the timing of tasks by moving the Gantt bars with the mouse (OK, arguably, this could put the software in another price league altogether); 2) to allow the conversion of a project task to an Outlook calendar item, on top of an Outlook task. This way, you could have a calendar view of your entire project.
Some specific feature that might be critical to your job could be missing, so it is advisable to give this product a trial run anyway.
