Version: My Notes Keeper 1.6 build 605
Pros: I have been looking for a notetake for class and finally settled on this one. After trying quite a few programs (evernote, myinfo, treepad, etc) I am going with this one. It would take too long to explain why this program seems better, but it is defnitely worth a try.
1) The formatting is good (much better than treepad). I use a take off on the cornel method for note taking which means I use tables to split the writing space up. I have had a horrible time finding a program to do this. Treepad wouldn't let me change indents or outline styles within a table cell - with this program I can.
2) You can customize all of the shortcuts (unlike all of the other programs). This is a huge deal for me - probably the best thing about the program - for instance when I want to indent, add bullets, numbers, etc, I don't want to click a stupid button everytime I have a new line of info. This program let me define all of that.
3) This program has the typical tree outline (with icons if you want) PLUS you can have tabs at the top. I am using this for classes at the moment with my notes in the trees, but I think I am going to use a different file for each class. Then my taps would be more like real notebooks, outside reading, class notes, outlines, etc.
3) This program seems to be a bit faster than the others. For instance I have important (all at one) about 15 course outlines from word which were each from 35-100 pages long. Now I can click on each seperate note (each containing an outline) and it is instantly there - the other programs seem to hang up.
Cons: The single weak spot of this program is the search functionality. Its not that its poor - its as good as many other programs, but it could be better. That said it seems like the company is activly producing the program. Yet from the countless hours I spent evaluating simular versions they are way ahead....at least for my use.
Finally just to save some others time:
Myinfo doesn't have spell check - this program does
Treepad is okay but its formatting sucks - this program seems fine
Evernote is cool but if you try to print all your notes it arranges them by date - so you may want to stick to a typical tree type program
TexNotes is good but it started to blank as I filled it up with information
Keynote seemed great but you can't use tables (also an issue w/ evernote unless you create them in word and copy them over)
The Journal is very simular to this program but it is extreamly slow - those outlines I was talking about, the program hesitated for a couple seconds before displaying them
