This piece of freeware helps you keep track of holidays, birthdays, paydays, and other events, and also can count forward from events such as sobriety dates or weddings. MiniMinder's Reminders window launches on system start-up so each day you can see how much time remains before your next event. Clicking the Edit button calls up the Events Editor, where you can create entries from scratch or choose holidays from a pull-down list.
In either case, you can specify how far ahead of the event the notification will appear. The optional Daily Quotes feature pops up verses from one of five included files, including the Bible and Koran. MiniMinder now supports alarms, but setting them is awkward: you include the alarm time in the name of the event, inside angle brackets. On the other hand, ambitious users can edit the reminder file directly, as the format is easy to modify.
We wish MiniMinder could set reminders to count off hours or minutes before an event instead of only days. We also would prefer an integrated help file instead of the online assistance the program offers. Regardless, the small, focused, and free MiniMinder makes a compelling choice for almost anyone but power users.

From Vellosoft :When you reach the desktop, MiniMinder greets you with a slick, daily countdown to all the upcoming dates and alarms you wish to track. You can set yearly, quarterly, monthly or daily events, events such as the 4th Thursday of the month, events in increments such as every 28 days and MiniMinder can also calculate the dates for floating holidays such as Easter and Passover. Each event can be set with its own unique advance notice and when an event is taken care of (birthday card sent, credit card payment made) you can right-click it from the Reminders Window and chose to hide it until its next occurrence. Setting alarms is as simple as adding a time inside your event title and you can watch the countdown to your alarm times from the Reminders Window. To top it all off, an impressive collection of Daily Quotes files have been submitted by fans of the MiniMinder. These Daily Quotes can optionally be served along with your daily reminders.
What's new in this version:
Version 8 is a major update to the MiniMinder, allowing you to watch the countdowns to your day's alarms from the Reminders Window, no longer requiring alarm times to be enclosed in < and > and bundling the help documentation instead of linking to the online help. Version 8 also includes the most ambitious user-submitted Daily Quotes file yet - Jeff Owen's Wisdom of the Ages, a collection of 6,562 quotes spanning all of recorded history.

"It does what it claims dependably, simply and acurately"
Pros: I have grown progressively more dependent on this little reminder. It does what I need without a lot of confusing and unnecessary glitz and options. I wish more programs did what they claim and didn't bombard me unrelated and unwanted junk I need to wade through to get it to do what I want. This program is clean, straight forward and simple.
