From Vellosoft :MiniMinder serves up a slick, daily countdown for all the upcoming events you wish to track. For those who boot their computers daily, MiniMinder shows you your reminders each time you reach the desktop. For those whose computers are always on, MiniMinder can be minimized to the system tray, where it uses a minimum of system resources and then reappears with each new day. You can set events yearly, monthly, or daily, or every other Sunday or every fourth Thursday. You also can set events that occur in increments, such as every seven days and an event that can track the exact number of days, months, and years that have passed from a previous date.
With 6.52, a quick double-click on your event in the Reminders Window will open that event for editing in the Events Editor.

Version: MiniMinder 6.52
Pros: Entering dates with the MiniMinder is so quick and simple, I had my entire calendar of almost 60 special dates converted in just a matter of minutes. After about a week of having my reminders arrive on the desktop, I finally just took my calendar and pitched it in the trash, I have no need for it any more. My dates are set up with friends and relatives out of town set to 21 days advance notice and locals with 7 days notice. Perfect. I can't imagine a single feature I would want added.
