CNET Editors' review
Mindjet MindManager is a unique program aimed at business people keeping track of complicated projects with objectives that change on the fly. While this program offers users a chance to streamline their world, it is not something people can leap directly into and operate.
This program's main objective is project management. The goal is to provide a free-flowing chart, making even the most complex goals visible. This is accomplished through a flexible set of tools to map agendas, priorities, people working on the project, deadlines, and more, all with the ability to update and change.
MindManager is a complicated program that will take many hours of practice to perfect. While it is organized like Microsoft Office programs and may be semi-intuitive, there are so many options, that a new user may be lost. Fortunately, the program comes with a helpful tutorial that walks you through the many options available.
MindManager has the ability to really help users get organized, but even with the tutorial, the sheer number of commands and buttons can be overwhelming. We would have liked to see a slightly longer trial period than the standard 30 days, just so users could get their bearings using the tool. In addition, the flow chart the program creates may be unlike anything co-workers have used and will take time on their side to understand what each box, line, and symbol mean. However, if you are looking for a dynamic way to organize projects and are willing to put in the work, MindManager could be the answer.

"Unless mistaken, they own your data. Not 4 for my biz!"
Version: Mindjet MindManager 10.0.445
Pros
App looks interesting, especially with Evernote I'm a MindNode user and this looks like a good next step in evolution.
Cons
Was about to try it online with Evernote, but in reading T&Cs, you authorize irrevocable rights to anything you upload. Am I wrong here? No way I will take that on.

"Powerful and Brilliant"
Version: Mindjet MindManager 9.0
Pros
Powerful and productive
Cons
Very expensive
-
"Would not recommend"
Version: Mindjet MindManager 8.1
Pros
Many functions; neat GUI
Cons
The increased functionality is not managed correctly in this software, which makes it bloated and difficult to use. Start-up time is unacceptable, and in-program operations are also tear-jerkingly slow.
Summary
If you can afford MindManager and have the patience to stand by it while it tries to pan up and down your mindmap, then it might be a good choice for you. If not, just look for a freeware alternative that's faster and more productive, at least for personal use.

"Great effective software for my limited use"
Version: Mindjet MindManager 8.1
Pros
works well, intuitive, looks classy
Cons
none operationally.
Too expensiveSummary
Too expensive to buy for limited use needs like mine
-
"Slow and bloated"
Version: Mindjet MindManager 8.0
Pros
Office 2007-like interface; many keyboard shortcuts
Cons
Most operations run very very (very!) slowly on a modern computer, I can only imagine how long they take on a somewhat older computer. Lack of a handful of basic functionalities. Terrible support.
Summary
This program progresses at a painstakingly slow pace. I have been looking for a mindmapping solution for a long time, and while my decision has favoured open source software, MindManager was given serious consideration. I have, however, found the lastest version of MindManager to be embarassingly close in functionality to its predecessor, version 7. I honestly do not know what the programmers of this software call progress if not making their product faster and more useful.

Freeware mind-mapping programs such as FreeMind and IHMC CmapTools are a lot more efficient at doing what they're supposed to, and are also faster and more stable than this bloated sluggish corporate scam.
