Foxit PDF Reader, the program that many consider to be a faster, lighter, more able Windows alternative to Adobe Reader, has recently jumped to version 5.0. This newest release comes with many of the same solid features, a few new ones, and an upgraded interface.
As with the previous version, the setup process is a bit cumbersome. First, watch out for the two check boxes that make Ask your browser default search provider and Ask.com your home page. Opt out as necessary. Then, toward the end of the installation process, be sure to read carefully and opt out of the Addin for Mozilla FireFox, Opera, Safari and Chrome--unless, of course, you're into bloated toolbars. Once you make it through the installation gauntlet, the rest should be smooth sailing.
The new Foxit Reader 5.0 interface is a bit sleeker than in previous versions. It still has clean, easily distinguishable icons, and the toolbar is still customizable. In addition, you can now choose your color scheme (black, blue, orange, purple). It's not ground-breaking, but it's a nice touch. You can also choose a new ribbon-style menu and customize your own shortcut keys.
Foxit Reader 5.0 still includes many of the useful features that its rival, Adobe Reader, doesn't. There's tabbed PDF viewing, text-only view, rulers, Safe Mode, and several annotation tools for things like highlighting and commenting. Meanwhile, 5.0 has added a few conveniences that give it an extra edge, including XFA form filling, support for Microsoft RMS-protected files, and previews in Outlook.
Overall, we think the new Foxit Reader is a worthwhile download. While it may not be perfect--it can't create PDFs, and it pesters users with add-ons and upgrades--it's still a solid alternative to Adobe Reader.

I love Foxit Reader. The addon for this software works better with Firefox than Adobe's addon. I am so glad the newest version is compatible with the latest version of Firefox. I missed it so. I can open PDF files quickly and easily again !

I have no idea whether or not Foxit works as well with IE or other browsers as it does with Firefox. Also, I still prefer Adobe outside of the browser environment.
Summary
Bottom line, if you're using the Firefox browser, then Foxit Reader's addon is going to work so much better at loading PDF files within the browser environment than Adobe's addon will. Try it out and see for yourself.

I was worried about upgrading from version 3 (which I have been using for a long time, with Firefox) to version 4 because of the warnings about annoying toolbars etc.
I was able to install it without any of the extras, but it takes some careful reading:
1. When you uncheck the options for making Ask your default search and setting Ask.com, it also says "By clicking 'Decline', the Foxit Search Bar will not be installed and you will continue the installation of Foxit Reader."
At the bottom you have three choices: "Decline' 'Accept' and 'Cancel' (I think). Anyway, you should choose 'Decline' although that is very counter-intuitive.
2. When you get to the final screen, there are the usual check boxes for a Desktop icon etc, and one is: "Create desktop, quick launch, and start menu item to eBay". I don't know what the "start menu item to eBay" is, but I don't want it. -

Previous comments about the ASK toolbar are not true.
I downloaded and installed it today, and no ASK tool bar in an of my browsers (IE, Maxthon, Firefox, Chrome), you simply DECLINE the agreement AS STATED DURING INSTALLATION (why don't people read before they click?) in the box that shows the Foxit/ASK toolbar.
It DOES have an uninstaller.
