Publisher's Description
From NCH Software:
Express Scribe is professional audio player software for PC designed to assist the transcription of audio recordings. Audio recording can be loaded automatically from email, LAN, FTP, local hard drive, and Express Delegate. A typist can install Express Scribe on their computer and control audio playback with a foot pedal (keeping your hands free for typing), or keyboard shortcuts with Scribe running in the background while transcribing into a word-processor or other program. The free version of Express Scribe supports most common audio formats including WAV, MP3, WMA, AIF, and DCT and does not expire. You will need the professional version for playing proprietary formats including DSS, DS2, MVF and video file transcription.

"Stomps all over your PC"
Version: Express Scribe 5.51
Pros
Adequate as a transcriber.
Cons
Stomps all over your PC.
Summary
I bought Express Scribe because it works with a footswitch, making it easier to transcribe recorded interviews. It does the job adequately.
Unfortunately, NCH also stomps all over a PC, establishing links and context menus for various file extensions that have nothing to do with Express Scribe.
For example, Express Scribe is a sound transcriber. It added stuff that wanted to go and get more NCH software to handle compressed (zip and rar) files and many other media files.
There does not seem to be any way to prevent this.
If you just want the software, try to find an alternative that does not impose itself all over your PC.
When asked about this, NCH seems to wilfully miss the point. Their advice seems to be to uninstall the software completely. Instead, I had to manually remove the junk from the Windows registry.
