Dial-a-fix

Publisher's Description

From DjLizard:

Dial-a-fix is a collection of 'known fixes' that have been compiled over the past year that really knock out some serious Windows problems, all with one or two clicks. It tackles issues with SSL/Cryptography, Windows Update, Microsoft Installer, and many miscellaneous shell problems. Most of the fixes it uses are found in various Microsoft Knowledgebase articles, and articles written by Microsoft MVPs. When you see a list of DLLs that need to be registered using REGSVR32.EXE, chances are they are already listed in Dial-a-fix. Mouseover a checkbox or button to obtain more information about what will be executed, or what DLLs will be registered.

"Can not recommend at this time"

    March 3, 2010  |   By si

    Version: Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24

    Pros

Seems like a nice little program, if it would be updated...

    Cons

I can't use it because it didn't recognize IE8 files.

    Summary

It did not recognize any IE8 files, then froze when unregistering es.dll; it wiped my desktop completely off (nothing left but the mouse), killed IE8 altogether and I had to start up in Last Known Good Configuration to get back to a working computer. I can not recommend it in this version - it desperately needs updating.

"Does not work so well with IE8"

    November 30, 2009  |   By fjord_fox

    Version: Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24

    Pros

Works great with IE7. Everything functions well and it does what it is supposed to do.

    Cons

Does not work well with IE8. Once you begin this program, after installing Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) it constantly tells you that it doesn't recognize the version of the files that are installed on your computer.

    Summary

For this program to be worthwhile, they ae in serious need of an update. IE8 has been around for quite awhile and you would think that by now, they would have that update! I am rating it as only good (3 stars) but once they make that update, I would give it 5 stars.

"Very good tool for a damaged OS"

    November 24, 2009  |   By Randy Bell

    Version: Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24

    Pros

Like the previous reviewers have said, this is a very good repair tool for damaged O.S. recovered from a crash, or a system recovered from malware.

    Cons

Nothing much to say, the only 'glitch' is that it currently does not recognize IE8, but that only results in a harmless warning "cannot recognize current browser"; yet the program will still work.

    Summary

Basically this little tool automates tasks which would take much longer if done manually. And tasks which would take an individual user much longer to research on MS WebSite and discover the relevant Knowledge Base articles etc. in order to do everything that dial-a-fix does. Things like resetting Windows Update (WU), or flushing the Software Distribution folder, fixing Windows Installer, fixing the Cryptographic Services, etc. It is invaluable and I cannot understand how any knowledgable person could say this is "worthlessware" or make such insensitive and uninformed comment like that .. but each to his own, we all entitled to our opinion(s) I guess ..

    "Works and Free!"

    October 18, 2009  |   By kncywells

    Version: Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24

    Pros

The program did exactly what it advertised. A online serviced wanted to charge me $299 to address the problem.

    Cons

    There are no cons.

    Summary

If you are having trouble with MS Windows Update or Windows Installer try this program...it really did work for me.

    "Simple and efficient"

    March 7, 2009  |   By eplaye

    Version: Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24

    Pros

After a day trying to recover a usable Microsoft Update (and other tools relying on the same engine), dial-a-fix fixed it.

    Cons

Maybe the interface which looks basic, but who cares when you've got the good fix in few seconds.
