CNET Editors' review
CrossLoop provides a quick, easy, and completely free way to give a colleague, a friend, or a relative access to your computer. After installation, your PC will be assigned a 12-digit access code each time you start the program. You then give that number to another user to virtually share your desktop. Once connected, that user will have full access to your machine.
The odd nature of sharing a desktop cursor and the inability to add multiple users makes CrossLoop illogical for proper business presentations. However, the complete system access and 128-bit encrypted connection combine to create a great solution for low-budget, long-distance tech support. Guests can use any app and save files on your computer, as if they were sitting in front of the machine. No router configuration is required--a big plus. File transfers are now supported, but the purpose here remains collaboration: CrossLoop doesn't work without explicit permission from the host.
Since simplicity is a key attraction, it lacks more advanced features, and the connection must be made in two minutes or it times out. While the interface and the features are simple, CrossLoop offers a secure and fast method for two users to collaborate on one PC.

"Easiest VNC implementation."
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
1. Very easy to use.
2. Simple interface.
3. Works through routers and firewalls.
4. Does not require any knowledge about networking to connect two computers over the internet.
5. One computer user can troubleshoot another computer.Cons
None from my user experience. However it is to be understood that a 256kb internet connection is desirable as the desktop image is relayed to another computer using the net.
Summary
A very useful and straightforward software. Saves lots of travel time.

"POOR RELIABILITY AS REMOTE DESKTOP"
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
I USED TO BE ABLE TO ASSESS MY WORK COMPUTER FROM HOME TO FINISH WORK AT HOME.
Cons
DISCONNECTS TOO OFTEN. I CALL MY WIFE FROM HOME & GIVE HER ACCESS CODE. SHE CONNECTS. BY THE TIME I GET HOME, IT DISCONNECTS & THERE IS NOBODY AT WORK TO RECONNECT ME. I'M LOOKING FOR A PROGRAM THAT WILL STAY CONNECTED.
Summary
GOOD IF YOU NEED REMOTE ACCESS FOR SHORT TIME LIKE TECH SUPPORT. BAD IF YOU WANT REMOTE ACCESS SO YOU CAN WORK AT HOME.

"It's free and it does a good job"
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
It allows you to control another's computer to help out with tech issues. Simple to set up. Uses changing keys to enhance security.
Cons
I had it disconnect several times over a connection that I didn't think was too slow. It also has an ad pop-up every time the connection ends.
Summary
Does the job well and is free.
-
"A great program to help friends"
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
This program has worked very well for me as I have been able to help several of my friends who were having computer problems.
Cons
Have not experienced any major problems
Summary
Crossloop gives the ability to talk your friend through a problem (the best way to help) as you can see what they are doing. It also enables the helper to actually control the desktop in the event of the lack of knowllege at the other end of the conversation. As a silver surfer I find my friends are delighted to have this kind of help.

"Invaluable aid to helping those with less IT knowledge"
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
For a free remote access program it is very good and reasonably quick even on basic broadband systems. It allows you to fix many problems for people and I have used it also for tuition purposes.
Cons
Better file transfer would be nice and automatic reconnection if a reboot is required, but that may be too much to expect from a free product.
-
"Great using it."
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
Saves me from going to there homes. If they have internet can resolve most issues on line.
Cons
Connection problems. Can be in middle of doing something and be cut off. Either by program or slow internet.
Summary
I'll still use this product, because of friends all over the USA.
-
"Fast, intuitive, smooth, and elegant. And free!"
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
Unbelievably easy to set up and get running, even for technophobic people like the guy who's machine I was accessing.
Easy registration, straightforward setup, REALLY fast response time from the access machine to the host machine. Almost no lag.Cons
No complaints of any kind.
Summary
Granted, I've only used it on two different host machines, but I was simply floored by this software. I just cannot say enough good things about the elegance of its simplicity and how well it worked.
-
"For pay support lines."
Version: CrossLoop 2.51
Pros
Free software. That's it.
Cons
While I applaud efforts to get support to the people, this software and it's intent is only revealed later after you download and hit its home page.
Summary
Not worth looking at.
-
