CNET Editors' review
Catch Notes is a robust, yet simple notepad app that lets you keep track of your ideas using text notes, voice notes, camera notes, and more. Use it in conjunction with a free Catch.com account to sync your notes to the cloud and access them from anywhere.
The Catch Notes interface is super clean and refreshingly intuitive, with all of its basic functions laid out as icons on the Home screen. My notes brings you to all of your work. Tags lets you search your notes using hash-designated keywords. Settings lets you customize certain features. And the rest of the icons are dedicated to the different types of notes you can create: Text note, Camera note, Gallery note (for pictures from your gallery), Voice note, and Reminder note (for alarm notifications). For Catch.com account holders, there's also a small refresh icon in the top corner, which backs up photos and notes to the Web site.
Although there are different icons for each note type, you can really add any media to any of your notes. The icons are there just to get you started. So within any note, you can hit attach, then record a voice message, choose a photo from your gallery, or fire up your camera for a new photo. You can also share your work via Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or any of your phone's other installed applications.
If you're a frequent note-taker you can enable the optional widget, which gives you a one-touch way to create text, voice, or camera notes right from your Home screen. There's also a nifty password-protect option to lock the app from unauthorized users.
Overall, Catch Notes is a great note-taker that impressed us with its clean, icon-based interface, and its ability to handle voice recordings and pictures, along with traditional text notes. However, we did think it was missing formatting options for text. It would have been nice, for instance, to create checklists, or at the very least, bullet points. But even without the formatting, it still performs solidly, and is a worthwhile download, especially if you're willing to set up a free companion account on Catch.com.
