Lost track of something on your phone? The free Astro File Manager presents a folder view of your phone, including program folders for third-party apps and the contents of your root system folder. A swipeable toolbar along the top helps you navigate through the directory, and contains buttons to start a search, edit an entry, bookmark a folder, and so on. In addition, Astro File Manager also kills tasks, sends files as attachments, and creates and stores backups of your apps. Astro's file manager also packs some powers to zip up files in addition to reading ZIP and TGZ files.Publisher's Description
From Metago:
ASTRO will help you copy, move, delete and rename files. You can work with single files or multiple files. ASTRO does this in an intelligent manor working with your phone. These actions will be completed correctly even if you receive a phone call during the transaction. (try that test with other file managers and see what happens to your data.)
ASTRO makes it easy to backup and restore public applications and also to install and un-install them. This means you can backup and un-install less frequently used applications, then quickly re-install them when needed. Since Android does not allow applications to be run from the SD card, this offers you the next best solution for freeing up the limit internal memory.
The Process Manager will show you all running Applications, Services, and Processes. It displays running statistics for each one including the amount of memory and CPU each one is using. Applications can be stopped (killed), opened, detailed or ignored. This allows you to see if any applications use too many resources and keep you phone running smoothly.
ASTRO will let you send files as attachments to your email. You can also send images to other applications like Messaging or Picasa, or any other application that has registered to receive files.
You can set the directory options to view thumbnails of any image in the directory (not just images in your picture gallery). ASTRO also has includes an image viewer that shows a thumbnail gallery of all the images in your current directory and supports gestures to rotate and change images.
ASTRO has built in support for reading and extracting compressed files like Zip and Tar files. You can browse the file just like it is another directory. You can extract individual files using copy and paste just like any other file. For Zip files you can also move, delete and rename files without having to extract the whole file.

"Simply the Best File Manager"
Version: Astro File Manager for Android 2.5.2
Pros
Great. I can use it to track down practically anything on my phones and tablets.
Cons
The UI is a bit utilitarian and looks dated. But then again, it's designed to be a way to find that oddball file when the device's traditional document/photo/download/file manager doesn't automatically track it down, so a utilitarian traditional look might be more suited for the task at hand.
Summary
This isn't the coolest app around, but it is quite useful. I change phones and tablets frequently, and this app makes it on every device I use.

"Life-saver"
Version: Astro File Manager for Android 2.5.2
Pros
Perfect for organizing and opening media files on Xoom
Cons
None that I've encountered.
Summary
I needed a way to access PDFs I had put on my new Xoom. Specifically Complete Mad pdfs and Complete National Lampoon. I dragged files from my laptop to my Xoom but couldn't locate them. There didn't seem to be an Adobe Reader for Xoom I could download. Xoom help hinted that this software (call 'em apps if you're a Maccie). As soon as I downloaded it, there they were. BTW, the Xoom is perfect for reading archived comics and magazines in PDF.
