"I was looking forward to it?"

    September 9, 2010  |   By CyberSkull

    Version: Apple iOS 4.1

    Pros

    Yay! Game Center!

    Cons

What do you mean I can't have Game Center on my 3G?

    Summary

While iOS 4 continues to improve, I still keep getting disappointed by the lack of key features on the 3G. The latest disappointment is the lack of the Game Center. I was (and still am) eager to see Apple's take on a gaming network. But since it is absurdly not included for the 3G, I am left wanting again.

    "Bricked my iPhone 4"

This software bricked my iPhone 4. Spent an hour on the phone with Applecare, but no joy. Updater fails with "Error 9".

Lots of reports of same problem on Apple Discussion Forum.

    "Horrible Hideous Heinous"

    Summary

The honeymoon is over. DO NOT USE THIS UPDATE. At the last moment the program said it could not be updated, then froze. A complete restore needs to enacted to get the phone to work. Apple has reached that point where success has made them lazy and produce products that do not work. It may also come as a shock to realize that the warranty on an iphone is 3 months...that says something about the belief in their product. If you have two hours to spend in mystery as to whether your phone will work or not....update.

"Smooth update; still looking for some features"

    June 22, 2010  |   By macbtl

    Version: Apple iOS 4.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
No problems installing (took ca. 30 min total, including five minutes to update photos). I did get an error message at the end saying the sync couldn't be completed because a sync was already in progress. Seems OK though.

I don't think there's an updated help file yet. There is supposed to be a way to "lock portrait orientation" but I have no idea how to do this. Can't find anything on Apple's web site about it. Still, the updater and new OS version work fine.

    "Meh.."

    June 21, 2010  |   By A. Nony Mouse

    Version: Apple iOS 4.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Not the greatest for iPhone 3G users but the small enhancements are nice. I am one who appreciates the new multiple mailbox views. It did wipes EVERYTHING from my phone and I DID need to sort out my syncing with Mobile me but eventually- as most updates everything settled down and I was able to work well enough. Not so much with iOS but I also use a PC (two to be exact) and I find that MobileMe control panel 1.6 isn't working as smoothly as did the previous version. So- Im saving my upgrade (coming his fall) with AT&T to get the new hardware which will work A LOT better than this does on the 3G. Not bad, not great, a lot of ... Meh..
