CNET Editors' review
Able2Doc PDF to Word Converter basically does one thing very well--it converts PDF files into Word or Open Office Writer documents so that you can use and manage them in Microsoft Word, the OpenOffice.org open-source program, or a compatible word processor. It also saves files in both DOC and RTF formats.
The program has advantages beyond doing away with a PDF reader and standardizing your documents and files, such as preserving the look and feel of PDF files in your Word documents. It offers several conversion options, including the ability to convert .PDFs into fillable Word forms, to place converted PDFs into frames in Word, or to just convert the text. Able2Doc also handles XPS files, Microsoft's PDF competitor. The program uses Investintech's Accumax CT conversion engine. Able2Doc downloads and installs politely. The clean, businesslike interface offers effective guidance for first-time users with optional Quick Start Tips and pop-up Tip Balloons. It's easy to select which conversion option best suits your needs and which parts of the PDF file to convert. Something we'd like to see is output options to make it easier to send saved converted files to target folders, e-mail, and such.
Able2Doc performs well, but the free seven-day trial version has limitations, such as the capability to convert only a few pages. You must buy and register your copy to get full functionality. However, for the business user with a specific need, Able2Doc PDF to Word Converter will be a valuable productivity tool.
Publisher's Description
From Investintech:
Able2Doc (A2D) enables users to view PDFs and convert PDF data into editable MS Word documents and Open Office Writer format. Users can select data from a PDF document and choose to convert the selection into Word using one of four options. The standard option Word output retains the background graphics and the look and feel of the PDF document and does not use frames (text boxes) for the Word text. The forms options converts PDF form elements into fillable Word forms. The frames option is similar to the standard option but places the text into frames within Word. The text conversion converts only the text, and the output is in a standard formatted Word document. Able2Doc is also able to convert XPS documents to Word. XPS is Microsoft's PDF competitor.
