Dr. Ajit Pai is a cancer surgeon with a special expertise in cancers of the gastrointestinal tract [stomach, pancreas, colon and rectum], gynaecologic cancers [uterine and cervical cancers] and cancers of the foodpipe [esophagus]. He also provides comprehensive care for cancers of the breast and head and neck cancers.
He trained from the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India. He then underwent advanced training in gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancer surgery in Japan and at Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Pai also completed a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques for GI cancers at the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA.
His special areas of interest and expertise are in the use of laparoscopic and robotic surgery for colorectal, esophageal, cervical and uterine cancers and conservation surgery for breast cancer. He has published extensively in peer reviewed international journals, presented at international meetings and has authored several book chapters.
Active areas of research are in the long-term outcomes of robot-assisted surgery for rectal cancer and the impact of obesity in cancer specific outcomes.
