WordWeb is a handy utility that gives you the definition, synonyms, and antonyms of any given word without requiring you to go online, though it can connect to the Internet for expanded functionality should you want it.
The interface feels like an expanded version of any major word processing app's dictionary function, giving users an instant familiarity--even if they've never used WordWeb. After you type a term into the Lookup dialog box, the word's definition will appear in the interface's top pane, along with tabs that link to various wiki functions.
The bottom pane offers tabs for such items as synonyms, antonyms, and related words. The app's most notable feature is its hot key support; you simply use a hot key combo when the cursor is pointed over any word, and WordWeb will pop up onscreen with all pertinent information.
There are tools for changing the database to one of several English variations, altering the text size, and disabling WordWeb from recognizing offensive terms. The depth and functionality of WordWeb would be worth paying for, but thankfully you don't have to redefine your budget to get it--it's free.

Version: WordWeb 4.01
"Not a bad little dictionary."
Pros: This program seems to work well and has some basic hotkey functions. Useful from time to time.
Cons: This program felt like it was only a partial program. It is lacking something to make it standout and could use more support and FAQ's.

"OUTSTANDING!!! Works Globally w/App's & Web Page's!"
Pros: Whizible nailed it in his/her review. I have tried numerous app's that don't even come close to WordWeb. (Even payed for a few.) This is the best (IMO) to make you look like a master of the english language, or just improve your use & understanding of it overall. Graphic interface is strait forword and simple enough for a child to understand. This is a tool, not a game interface. Yet the graphic display is as good as any other app available today. Windoblinds theme manager applys theme skin and 3d buttons. Has option to turn off slang if your child will be useing it (accessed via drop down menu) or you just prefer not to have it present. This is a great tool for anyone! Has extensive library and referances. Can detect other installed dictionarys and x-referance them. Don't pass this one up. It's a keeper!!

"A great utility that really works !!!"
Pros: I keep on recommending this great utility to all my friends. It is convenient, effective, fast and exhaustive. It is not only a dictionary but is a thesaurus and mini-encyclopedia, especially with medical terms. Apart from words, its database covers the details of places, theories, distinguished personalities etc. The program runs in the system tray but you can opt otherwise during installation. You can click-select the desired word and press the hotkeys thus triggering Wordweb.. If the spelling you give is incorrect, you'll be given spelling suggestions from which you can select. It also allows you to replace the original word with the correct-spelled word, or its variations, synonyms etc. It keeps the history of the words ( per session only ) looked up thus helping you to build a strong vocabulary. You can cutomize its hotkeys ( 3 keys ) and can select between the variations of English used. I've been using Wordweb for three years continually and am almost completely satisfied about it. If you care about the words you choose to use and want to build a impressive vocabulary, this program is a must.. for which there are no parallels among freewares. I can assure you that there are no spywares, nags or registration procedures attached with this freeware.. You'll never regret downloading and installing it..
Cons: No bells or whistles here.. the interface is simple and plain ( but decent ). I always used to wish there were bit more colors and graphics on it. An option to hear pronunciations will be a welcome addition. Further there is no option to create and distribute custom dictionaries. If you want these features, then go for Babylon which according to me, is the only competition to Wordweb. ( Babylon is not a freeware ).

"Free offline dictionary/spell-check!"
Pros: With the ease of being able to use offline, WordWeb exceeds all internet dictionaries because you no longer have to wait for the mass server loads of answers.com or dicionary.com! With an extensive synonyms sheet, you can make your simple narrative into a masterpiece of verbose!
