From Venta :VentaFax is a powerful fax and answering machine software with color fax support. It sends and receives faxes and turns your PC into a versatile answering machine with remote control and email integration. You can retrieve your fax and voice messages from any touchtone phone and also have your email messages and faxes forwarded to you as email attachments. VentaFax also supports Caller ID and allows you to record a telephone conversation. Version 5.7 build 26 may include sending and receiving color faxes are now supported (in Windows 2000, XP and 2003 Server). A fax sent by email can be automatically converted into PDF format. The Photographic halftones mode is now available when generating a black and white fax. A new feature has been added to Message Manager you can now create and edit color faxes and cover pages. In Message Manager, the list of formats for fax conversion is expanded. Now faxes can be converted into JPEG, GIF and PNG formats. In Log Book, archive names now use the date interval notation based on first and last records entered (previously the archive date notation was used). Now with just one click you can copy the contents of Windows Address Book (WAB) into the VentaFax Phone Book. In business versions automatic conversion of incoming faxes into PDF format has been added.

"Dismal Failure! STAY AWAY from this Russian Company"
Cons: BEWARE! The evaluation copy seemed to work, so I bought it. To my surprise, the purchased didn't. When I asked for help, I was told, "Your modem isn't compatible" (although it wasn't listed as such!) and "Read the documentation, we can't do anything else." Additionally I was refused a refund. Even Symantec does that! They don't give a rip.

"Very good & much better than Winfax but needs clearer documentation"
Pros: We've used Winfax for three years, recently in host & client form. We've always struggled with its lack of ability to work properly but liked its flexibility and ease in putting together faxes and failed to find anything better in it's price range. That is, until last week, when Winfax decided to produce a complete system crash at the end of every attempted fax transmission and we discovered Venta4Net, the networked version of Ventafax.
It has taken us a while to work out how to use Venta4Net, since it is so fully featured with so many options and the documentation doesn't explain things clearly enough (like you have to toggle the 'Broadcast' icon to activate the Scheduler to make everything work), but oh joy at its superior performance!
We use an ISDN modem, and Winfax would often hang up or fail to complete a transmission properly. No more, Venta Association's fax software consistently produces fast, reliable transmissions which are a pleasure to watch. And it has the ability to compose composite faxes from several different document and image sources, like Winfax, but without Winfax's ability to stall or hang up completely.
Costwise, Venta4Net's higher price is acceptable in view of its more fully featured specification and reliability, and only the documentation lets it down.
Cons: The documentation needs improvement and its takes patience to get everything working properly, although this is amply rewarded.

Pros: Very well thought out, and comprehensive. The grabbing of distinctive ring in spite of TAPI's lack of support for it is truly ingeneuous! The ability to define scripts makes it very flexible. Easily the best phone system software I've seen in a long time.
Cons: Nothing to dislike, for me. No complaints.

"Perfect Program, Best Tech Support there is, if needed"
Pros: I dont know where others get their tech support is bad. Ive used their upgraded paid version 6.0 and 5.8 for about 1 year and the free one before that. Its flawless and their tech people are very smart.
Cons: The only "con" I could possibly think of is that the vast number of advanced settings for extras may confuse someone who is new with modem operation, commands, signals, etc. but they dont need edited anyway and it works fine right from the install.
Summary: I was having trouble receiving faxes once. I sent in my modem and program log by email as they ask and within 12 hours a very knowlegdeable agent replied and stated that the log shows all is working properly within the computer and he said why. I t... read more >>
