Publisher's Description
From Reinvented Software:
Together (formerly KIT - Keep It Together) is an application for storing, organizing, editing and previewing all kinds of files and can find them again quickly.
Just about anything can be dragged to Together's main window or Shelf for safe keeping. The Shelf is a system-wide window that appears as a tab on the side of the screen, which can also be used to browse and search the library, access favorites items and make quick notes.
Items can be organized into groups and folders. Folders work just like in the Finder, while groups can collect files from different places together, much like iTunes playlists. Items can be color-coded with labels and tagged. Smart Groups do the work of staying organized for you.
Together uses Spotlight to search the contents of all kinds of files as you type. Together can also encrypt documents, imports files in the background to ensure the library is always available and supports multiple libraries. Together can also sync with .Mac.
What's new in this version:
- It's now possible to use the left/right swipe gesture (three fingers on a trackpad, two on a mouse) to select the previous or next items in the list on multitouch trackpads or a Magic Mouse.
- Fixed a problem where Together would not be able to open a library on a secure disk image at launch.
- Fixed a problem where clicking on some editor toolbar controls would not perform the correct action.
- Fixed a problem where an invalid Quick Look preview could cause Toge... See all new features

"Manage categories like articles to be kept."
Version: Together 2.3.7
Pros
Together simply will let you keep control of any number of groups or categories you wish to keep for future use. IO use manily to keep articles regarding computers and applications such as Lifehacker items.
Cons
I have not found any significant item that calls to my attention a negative response.
Summary
I have used Together for many months now and of all the applications that claim to do what Together does, namely categorizing list, groups etc none can do a better job. Together stays on my dock and is istantly available when I want to add another article or create a list.

"Best of the Bunch"
Version: Together 2.3.5
Summary

I've used Evernote for years but object to the way they are now using the cloud as a way to squeeze money out of people (after you exceed 2GB) and that this is an annual fee. Just charge us for the program and then extra if you want / need their cloud. MobileMe can accomplish the same for any of these programs. The other great concern was that Evernote have STILL not implemented a way to migrate files/ notes from EN to any other similar program, thereby jailing your notes / information into Evernote. They claim to offer XML export but this doesn't work if moving from PC to a Mac (which I have done). I did however also try exporting the Together database to Yojimbo, & vice versa, and this was accomplished without any issues whatsoever, except losing the tags.
I also compared Circus Ponies' (Notebook), Journaler (excellent but no longer being actively developed / supported), Yojimbo (again excellent but the lack of Folder Nesting is a big negative for me though Yojimbo's Tagging is far more intuitive and easier, helping to speed up organisation and filing), Soho Notes 8 (lots of features but the hugely negative feedback on the web (just start Googling it) to program issues and support means this was deleted from my testing very quickly). I have to say Together is visually a little more Mac than Windows too and I also like the way I have the option to view my files either vertically or horizontally. Search in Together is much slicker & powerful too. Together integrates the power of OS X into a number of it's functions (as this is a Mac only program) although Journaler does it even better.
Others I trialed were :-
DevonThink Pro which was way too much power and yet oddly disorganised without lots of the little features that make some of these other programs so good at what they do.
Eaglefiler which is another very good program but the interface is not as polished as Together / Yojimbo / Evernote.
Voodoopad I also tried but it isn't as feature rich as some of the others.
Really the only downside I found to Together was it uses ca. 140 / 150MB of memory against Yojimbo's 40 / 50 MB so if that is an issue for you (on a 2GB machine perhaps) then I'd go for Yojimbo (so long as the lack of Nested Folders isn't an issue either) because there is otherwise little between them. I would strongly encourage Reinvented Software (the developers) to look at their Tagging system again though - Yojimbo's would be a good model.
I highly recommend Together but suggest you download trial versions of the 3 or 4 programs that pique your interest most and then use them all for everything you clip / note / archive until the trials expire. I think you will find you very quickly drop one or two (I started with 6 but used 3 - Together, Journaler & Yojimbo) until near the end of the Together trial - by which time I had made a decision. If you are not a Mac user, and therefore can't use Together, then Yojimbo is the one I'd recommend without hesitation.

The best feature for me is Together's ability to import and show iWork docs - Pages, Numbers and Keynote - NONE of the competition can do this (MacJournal, Yojimbo, CircusPonies, or Journler for example) -it's just the best ans I've road testes them all! -
"awesome apps!"
Version: Together 2.2.5

This is what I am looking for, an application that fits my need!
you can create your own project and create notes, then pull the files together or related to one project, it may link or copy it over the files, any files will do.
I've used shovebox before, its great, however, cant put my stuff into it aside from pdf or docs.
I havent encountered any bugs or porblem yet, so ill give 5 stars! -
"Outstanding product"

Together is a great product. I disagree with the post below that compares it with Evernote (which is also a nice product). I view Together as something akin to a Finder supplement. It's for organizing and accessing files in complex ways that you can't accomplish easily using the traditional Finder. It extends the folder metaphor in ways that are easy to understand but very powerful. It does have a note-taking facility, and ability to save clippings, like Evernote, but that's not how I see its main purpose. I don't notice any issues with speed or startup, but the way. I use the "Shelf" (little popout) and keep it running all the time (it only uses about 50 MB of RAM and virtually no CPU). -
"Together Has Got It Together!"

I tried an early release of Together 2.x and had problems with imports dying and slow performance.
No longer! I am amazed at how smooth and fast my imports went and the speed of the application overall. The fantastic integration with QuickLook is the best out there bar none.
I've been a user of DevonThink and EagleFiler, and Together wins the prize. It gives me what I need without being over-engineered, it is lightning fast, uses the standard file system and has easy drag and drop storage. On top of all that, put a well designed user interface that is very Mac and you have it all.
As Kirk used to say to Scotty, "Mr. Harris, you are a miracle worker!"
Cheers,

"relatively slow, but EXPENSIVE as well"
Version: Together 2.0.6

I have tried Together and had a couple of crashes when the # of files increased.
I like the set-up and it is actually something I really like. The problem is that it's slow and too expensive for me. -
"You're better off using Finder"
Version: Together 1.3.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Finder has more features and better usability than this. It ran my machine harder than Photoshop does, it was slow, annoying, painful. I can organize my files better in Finder using spotlight keywords under info, and by sorting things into folders. This was basically useless and a drain on my system. -
