Soluto is an unusual program. This "Anti-Frustration Software" analyzes your system and compares its findings with an online knowledge base that proposes solutions to various performance bottlenecks. It focuses on three areas: Chop Boot, which reduces your startup time; Lighten Web Browser, which shows you how to speed up your surfing by optimizing your Web browser; and Heal Crashes, which tries to fix any problems causing programs to crash.

Installing Soluto requires a reboot, during which it analyzes your system's boot process and looks for improvements. Soluto's animated graphics and flow-based layout give it a feel somewhat reminiscent of Windows Media Center. It identified three categories of startup entries, displayed in expandable, proportional, color-coded sections on a hierarchical line. The first section, "No-brainer," listed four apps that we could remove from the boot process right away. One was our backup software, which we preferred not to change. However, the other entries listed recommendations to pause or delay an item during startup, based on what other users had done. We were more circumspect with the 10 apps listed in the "Potentially removable" section, which the program says is for advanced users. We made a few changes but mostly left these programs alone, which the program recommended, too. By far the largest section is startup entries that Soluto can't change--yet--and also programs that shouldn't be changed, such as antivirus software.

Soluto's online database grows over time as more users report their findings. We can see how it could help guide inexperienced users in choosing what to boot and what to skip. The browser tool identified 4 add-ons we could remove and 11 others we could potentially remove. We disabled a few, though most were there for a reason. The Heal Crashes tool correctly noted that our system had not crashed recently but offered to help fix it if it did. For inexperienced users with crash-prone systems, this could be a useful tool.

Soluto's interface bears a "beta" label, but we had no trouble using the program. While it made few drastic changes to our system, and thus no drastic improvements, it did a fine job of analyzing our system's potential weak points and proposing tested solutions. If your system takes too long to start or it's slow and balky, give Soluto a try. Someone might have already proposed a solution to your problem.

"Uh..what.. again cnet isnt what it used to be.."

    November 21, 2013   |   By spiky84

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1352

    Pros

Dont know installed but havent used.

    Cons

Not told that it would link with companies website without permission, and upload computer info, only told that it required a reboot, also not told that I would be asked to join companies website and that they would try to force feed me the payed version?

    Summary

this yet again cnet?, if your going to list the program description, please do so properly, it says that it keeps a database of info from its users..BUT no where in the description page did it say that it would automatically link up with the companies website and upload my computers data and inner workings to it, if I wanted my data and info(personal/data) immediatley accessable to a 2nd/3rd party that I dont know.. I would not be fixing it myself, and I do not like the idea of it immediatley happening without asking permission, as I do not yet know if the site and company are trustworthy!... ALSO it does not say anywhere that the company will try to get you to join their site.. and that if you do visit it, it will constantly try to get you to upgrade!( is this a trial listed as free yet again?)

I used to go to cnet for everything.. with each download I get more and disenchanted with this website.

"Cured slow boot times on all my computers"

    August 20, 2013   |   By ribbie149

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1352

    Pros

Especially useful to correct slow boot times. Delayed start option on non-essential boot items is really a great tool. I cut my boot time on my old Comapaq V5000 laptop down from over 5 minutes to under 3 minutes. Incidentally, you can solve your slow Avast boot time by going into settings>troubleshooting in the Avast program and disabling the rootkit scan on boot. You can also set a delayed start for Avast in the same area, although that did not cut much time off of the boot for the program.

    Cons

Results seem to fluctuate from boot to boot. This may actually be occurring, but I do not have the expertise to know for sure if this is normal.

    Summary

Nice program that has solved a major boot time problem for me.

"SO NOT READY for production use"

    June 22, 2013   |   By beadsland

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1328

    Pros

    * Supposedly analyzes startup processes and provides crowd-sourced advice on removing/delaying same. Never got to test this however.

    Cons

I started setting this up on a friend's computer, originally under my name, then thought better of it and decided to set up under their name. Unfortunately, by then it had captured my name, and we were stuck with it. Nowhere is there an option to change the personal name the account is registered under. You can change the "company name" and the email, but that's it.

This wouldn't even be apparent but for the fact that the Magic F8 function sends an email identifying the user of the computer by their personal name, repeatedly. Yet there is NO OPTION ANYWHERE to change this.

In a last ditch effort, I tried uninstalling the program, changing the email to a nonexistent email address, and logging out of the account. I then proceeded to try creating a new account. It logged me into the old account with the same incorrect name set.

After 20 minutes of futzing with this, I decided it wasn't worth any more time.

    Summary

Not ready for prime time. Maybe when they've worked the very basic profile quirks out, it might be worth another look.

"Be careful look to good to be true."

    April 29, 2013   |   By MrBooBoo123

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1201

    Pros

I would not trust it. I was looking at it and found out that if you go to remove the program it will leave behind a lot of Registry keys, that are a bit tricky to remove. And having a program look into my computer as deep as this program do's I would not trust it. This look like a nice program but it wants to look to deep into your system I would think about it before I would let something like that look into my system.

    Cons

They want you to open all doors into your computer. Don't trust it.

    Summary

All in all looks to good to be all true. Don't trust it.!!!

"Easy to use. Helpful to streamline your pc."

    April 18, 2013   |   By monteal0

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1201

    Pros

Monitors your starting programs. Advise you when to delay or eliminate them. Advise about helpful programs to use and install them, when and what to clean up in your temporary files. Gives you a visual display, easy to understand, about the choices you have to streamline your computer. Offer collaboration of other people who may have a greater degree of expertise at computers. Gives you weakly reports about booting times, and usage of of your hard drive storage.

    Cons

Sometimes it tells you, in my case mozilla firefox, that a program has crashed when it is not true.

    Summary

A must for people who has limited knowledge of computers, and very useful information for those who are more skilled at computers.

    "Easy to use, effective"

    April 10, 2013   |   By earplay

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1171

    Pros

    Easy for beginners
    Effective
    Uses few resources

    Cons

May be too simple for advanced users, but that's a preference

    Summary

Useful for beginners, works as advertised, no malware, quick and clean, simple (too simple if you want more information), probably good for small offices without an IT person.

"Just what I needed to speed up my boot time"

    March 15, 2013   |   By KevinProv

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1149

    Pros

    Delivers as promised.
It listed what items were causing the slow bootup (over 6 minutes--winxp). I chose to set some to delay, stopped others, and decided to uninstall Avast which was responsible for 1.5 minutes! (I'll be looking for alternative antivirus solution.) Now, system boots up under 2.5 minutes.
It also found useless add-ons to my google chrome browser that I didn't know were there, which I easily disabled.

    Cons

    Just a few cons...
It takes a long time the first time that it scans and shows results, especially in regards to startup items. But patience is its own reward, or something like that. lol
Can't set a time for the delay of startup items, though that doesn't seem to be an issue. For me, they quietly come on a few minutes after bootup.
I wish Avast allowed for delay startup, but it doesn't. Too ingrained in windows I suppose. Also, I wish some of the listed essential startup items were avalaible for delay start as well.

    Summary

A must-have for anyone with slow bootups, especially with an older system/OS.

"Handy, esp. for any w/little experience w/computers."

    February 25, 2013   |   By Phrixos2

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1149

    Pros

Much of the information it presents is, for those who know where to look, available in Windows anyway, but it is much easier and faster to see it so readily presented. One thing I really like is the way it names programs that have an update available--BUT--see 3. in Cons, below.

    Cons

    1. Soluto's data is so spread out, even w/ a 24" screen I must scroll down SIX screens to see all the info. There is so much unnecessary white space, & data is in such a giant un-techie techie looking format, Soluto looks like it's for preschoolers.
    2. Soluto seems to use few resources but it still means running in the background, with one more icon in the system tray.
    3. Soluto tells when program updates are available & gives a one-click way of doing that. A note appears saying, "(X) is being updated," BUT no more indication is given to say it is actually happening. The resultant fixed screen being indistinguishable from a frozen one, you must trust that it is in fact happening. If a long update, frustration kicks in, tempting you to click the button again (nothing happens) or even reload Soluto.

    Summary

Does what it say on the tin but treats you like a small child in the process. Result: I don't actually like using what is a very useful program.

"Total control, this program works with me, not against."

    February 19, 2013   |   By jran1011

    Version: Soluto 1.3.1149

    Pros

Takes you by the hand, but you are the ultimate decision-maker! Even tells you what other Soluto users have done, and gives recommendations!

    Cons

There's just plain too many "no explanation", "program unknown" - programs that Soluto does not know, therefore does not know what to do with or what to suggest to the user. Still, you can remove a program from boot, and just 'delay' it until a time when the system is not so busy. That said, Soluto knows all the important ones - security and key performance-related. For instance, WizMouse is a program that lets you scroll the un-focused window even while your focused window is on top - a wonderful app, but Soluto has no idea. Guess you just can't know them all!

    Summary

This program will make your life easy, and speed your boot time too! What more could you ask? Oh, and did I say it's free? Even better...
