Editors' Review

Soluto is an unusual program. This "Anti-Frustration Software" analyzes your system and compares its findings with an online knowledge base that proposes solutions to various performance bottlenecks. It focuses on three areas: Chop Boot, which reduces your startup time; Lighten Web Browser, which shows you how to speed up your surfing by optimizing your Web browser; and Heal Crashes, which tries to fix any problems causing programs to crash.

Installing Soluto requires a reboot, during which it analyzes your system's boot process and looks for improvements. Soluto's animated graphics and flow-based layout give it a feel somewhat reminiscent of Windows Media Center. It identified three categories of startup entries, displayed in expandable, proportional, color-coded sections on a hierarchical line. The first section, "No-brainer," listed four apps that we could remove from the boot process right away. One was our backup software, which we preferred not to change. However, the other entries listed recommendations to pause or delay an item during startup, based on what other users had done. We were more circumspect with the 10 apps listed in the "Potentially removable" section, which the program says is for advanced users. We made a few changes but mostly left these programs alone, which the program recommended, too. By far the largest section is startup entries that Soluto can't change--yet--and also programs that shouldn't be changed, such as antivirus software.

Soluto's online database grows over time as more users report their findings. We can see how it could help guide inexperienced users in choosing what to boot and what to skip. The browser tool identified 4 add-ons we could remove and 11 others we could potentially remove. We disabled a few, though most were there for a reason. The Heal Crashes tool correctly noted that our system had not crashed recently but offered to help fix it if it did. For inexperienced users with crash-prone systems, this could be a useful tool.

Soluto's interface bears a "beta" label, but we had no trouble using the program. While it made few drastic changes to our system, and thus no drastic improvements, it did a fine job of analyzing our system's potential weak points and proposing tested solutions. If your system takes too long to start or it's slow and balky, give Soluto a try. Someone might have already proposed a solution to your problem.

"No longer suppports desktop version after buyout"

WAS great. Easy to use, In depth information, great to help out friends and family for free and to keep tabs on what needs updating/deframenting/user frustrations... everything! A great product that is now dead :(

DEAD product. Bought by some Tennessee company that only supports phone OS now. So sad to see it die for desktops.

Not worth using on phone as there are many other choices. A shame to see a great product die.

"Soluto is full of gimmicks"

The cons far cons weigh the pros

1. To start with, instead of the 1.5MB size stated on CNET, the file is actually 40.5MB that gets downloaded. It consumed unplanned internet data.
2. Then, every time you use launch it, it takes you to their website that gobbles so much of your data plan.
3. The website suggests they are mostly interested in pushing you into their premium plan and would employ all kinds of tricks.
4. You can't simply remove the entire software from your system just by clicking uninstall in control panel. Had to use 3rd party deep uninstaller to remove the entire thing.

"a true optimizer"

-effective. only program that i know that actually can locate bottlenecks that slow your system. useful information for stopping various processes and startups.

-i like it as an optimizer (only on a troubled computer that has freeze ups) in which you install, run it a couple of days, and uninstall it. cuz, it runs in background eating resources and slowing boot itself. however, it is not always easy to uninstall and wishes to remove its fixes on uninstall. its still useful if you have serious performance issues, but have a good uninstaller ready and pay attention to settings.

actually optimizes, not just some system cleaner. performs real diagnostics and gives real recommendations.

"It Does Work - Interface is Cumbersome"

Improves boot time
provides recommendations for applications that user can use or ignore
Can be used to help others

Interface is a little cumbersome
Installing can be more frustrating than long boot time

No matter what the Chicken Littles out there say, this software does work. Helped me decide on what programs to keep in boot, delay after boot or remove completely.. I was apprehensive at first, but said, "What the heck" when I first set up my new laptop.

Your homepage on Soluto webpage ha a lay out that is in a simple graphics format that is easy to use. Categorizes each program or app that is currently in your boot into removable, potentially removable and required apps. Soluto then provides recommendations on whether or not to keep in boot, delay or remove. It does work.

Soluto does provide recommendations for apps under Required banner, but currently you cannot act on those recommendations. Also, Soluto software does take up some amount of boot time too. I guess there's no such thing a a free lunch.
