Version: Solid Converter PDF to Word 3.1 build 433
"Quite good considering the price"
Pros: I've been sitting the whole afternoon trying to figure out which of all the pdf converters out there is the best. I've tried pdf-file, 123pdf and docsmartz (these three seem to be exactly the same program - however 123pdf is for some reason cheaper than the others so opt for this one). They're all fine when it comes to straight conversions of pdf:s into similarly edited word files. They're not so good if you, like me, want to have an unedited text-file as you're output product. Next in line is the Solid converter. A step up in price but also in output quality. The program allows for quite good unedited outputs in word or rich text formats. None of these programs are exactly cheap (except perhaps 123pdf) but I'd rate this program quite good at the price. The next level of converters are represented by ABBYY and Nuance, at about 100$. Nuances converter is not available as a trial version so I can't really say anything about it, but it looks interesting. ABBYYs has some advantages over Solid that might be worth the price. First of all it produces cleaner unedited texts - less artifacts and incomprehensive text. Second, it allows for the user to chose which parts of the pdf he or she want's to appear in the final document, which is great, especially if your pdf:s are full of headers and footnotes that you donĂ??t want to appear in the bread text. Third, it seems to be able to bypass password protected pdf:s, something that Solids software does not.
Cons: Does not allways produce good reads of the pdfs, especially when converting edited documents into unedited ones.
Don't allow you to chose exactly which areas of the pdf will be included in the final document.
Can't handle password protected pdf:s.
