"Unable to close or quit on 10.3.8"

October 05, 2005  |  By Battered Powerbook

 |  Version: SBook5 5.1.010

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Overall I like the design of this program, and it seems smart and secure enough, but although I am able to save my changes, I can't close, quit, or select a good number of other menu items including About Sbook5 and a bunch of other things.

I have to Force Quit every time. Annoying.

"Quick review of SBook5"

December 09, 2004  |  By arfitact_WM

 |  Version: SBook5 5.1.010

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Cool, fast, clear & smart! I wish I could change the typeface of the main view - making all of them smaller, but it seems I can only change individual entries, one at a time.

I could not get it to import a TDF of 5600 contacts, from an old PIM which were exported as TDF. The sBook app recognized what kind of file it was, gave me two choices before importing them (concatenate first-last names, which I had already done in the exported TDF, & ignore the first line or first entry since it might be column-fieldname headers, which it was and which I did want to import as a test).

I wish I could Sort the main list by email address once I have shown them - as a way to cull out duplicates that are NOT duplicates in a literal sense.

Wish that HELP was 'available for sBook5' so I could evaluate it more fully.

"What personal info mgmt should be"

This kind of smart text parsing should be part and parcel of every PIM program from Address Book to Entourage. Big thanks to the developer - and even more for doing it for the community. How about doing something similar for iCal?

This is fantastic. Just what I was looking for. Plan to use for my office and home too. Feature rich, especially with envelopes, labels, telephone. Slick, especially since I have Panther (which is also fantastic!)

Excellent freeware. Not perfect, and doesn't have all the features I want. Very smart responsive author.

"A good application!"

I've been using SBook5 for the past year and each new version just gets better than its predecessor! SBook5 is an excellent PIM application suitable for BOTH business and personal use. I especially like its clean, yet elegant, interface! I use it's envelope printing capability a lot and like the way it accurately handles complex addresses. An excellent application; kudos to SB's author!

"Great Program, but..."

Summary

It still has problems syncing back and forth with address book. Address book is still at the center of my mac addresses because so many other programs depend on it... I use sbook primarily for input and syncing back and forth. Even after so many versions sbook has major problems when you sync/edit/sync/edit. Inevitably you end up with multiple versions of the same record. very frustrating. Also if you sync back and forth the records tend to get screwed up.

Still sbook is great for entering free from data, and it shows great promise....

"This is freeware?"

I'm amazed. I've seen less efficient packages being sold for upwards of $100. The author ought to at least put a "Donate" button on his site... I couldn't give 5 stars all around only because the documentation seemed a little thin, but over all it's excellent.

"Works, but is it needed?"

June 12, 2003  |  By ncianca

 |  Version: SBook5 5.04

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Interesting program. Fast access to names and addresses and imports/syncs well with Address Book. Consumes slightly more memory then Address Book. One problem with the "AI" feature -- if you drag text consisting of Name CR address CR city, state zip CR, etc. It treats the Name as the first line of the address. With the "built in" Address Book the utility of this program becomes a bit more questionable, but I've only tried with the 2000 or so entries in my Address Book. Perhaps with more entries it would make a difference? But it does what it says and hasn't crashed, trashed my data and it's free.
