As the name implies, this simple executable lets you easily change your screen's resolution. Resolution Changer SX2 adds an icon to your system tray that has a menu with the program's options. You can instantly apply one of four preset resolutions or go to a secondary menu with more options, and the preset can be changed to whatever four suit your needs best. Resolution Changer SX2 lets you change the color depth as well, from 16 colors to 32 bit. There isn't a help file, but none is needed. This program is easy-to-understand and works quickly, removing a number of steps from the traditional Windows method. Anyone looking for a shortcut to changing screen resolution will be pleased with this freeware program.

W7 gave me a runtime error '381'. Ran it in sandboxie, and now it works perfectly.
Summary
EDIT: 1st pre-set is null, use the second, third, and fourth options instead of 1, 2, 3, & 4.

Summary
My new laptop has a 1920x1080 widescreen display. I like to run it in this native resolution but some apps, like Photoshop Elements SE become unuseable since the menus and icons get too tiny. This app lets me *quickly* downshift to the next lowest resolution... without going through all the usual rigamarole. Good work, guys!

No keyboard shortcuts. The menu stays up until you make a selection or select cancel from the menu.

The menu stays up until you make a selection or select cancel from the menu. I would rather the menu go away when you click anywhere on the screen, as well as when a selection is made. However, this is not a deal-breaker for me - I still like this program.

This is a fairly elegant program, you just run it and choose the desired resolution/color setting from the menu. I'm a college student, and I've used it on the lab computers at school since the Display Properties are restricted to administrators.
Cons
You can't use the arrow keys in the menu; If you want to scroll to the bottom of the list of resolutions, you have to hold the mouse button down.
Also, it says version 1.0.8, but the download is actually 1.0.7. -

I like programs I don't have to install, especially ones for simple tasks such as this.
Cons
It can't work from a hotkey (that I know of), but then, that's why I have AutoHotkey.

It works! If you need a taskbar icon that you can click and then choose your resolution from the menu, this is do that perfectly.
So this is a five star product. Does what it does great and no bloat.
By the way, I am running it in Vista, works great!

Personally I don't know why download.com gave it such a low rating. Sure it a very simple program, but that is the point. It needs to be small and do what it does: change resolutions. Anything else would make it bulky. I give it 5 Stars, for each of use, ease of installation. And amazingly 'small' file-size after install. (It also take up almost nothing in memory.!)
