Read Mac-formatted hard disks and disk images.

HFSExplorer is an application that can read the file systems HFS (Mac OS Standard), HFS+ (Mac OS Extended), and HFSX (Mac OS Extended with case sensitive file names). HFSExplorer allows you to browse your Mac volumes with a graphical file system browser, extract files (copy to hard disk), view detailed information about the volume, and create disk images from the volume. HFSExplorer can also read most .dmg disk images created on a Mac, including zlib or bzip2 compressed images, and AES-128 encrypted images. It supports the partition schemes Master Boot Record, GUID Partition Table, and Apple Partition Map natively. HFSExplorer is written mostly in Java 5, optionally using some Java 6 features, with some Windows-specific parts written in C in order to be able to get raw access to block devices, and to create a practical launcher application.

Does what it says on the tin

Pros
Easy to download and install (Windows 10). Reads an HFS disk plugged into a USB port (why I downloaded it) Easily copies files to Windows machine.
Cons
You can only extract files, but that's all I need to do

Pros
After trying 8 others, this is the only one that I found that would open a pass word protected MAC DMG on windows - with great ease. It's free and very simple to use.
Cons
In order to work with Win7 need to install Windows XP Mode (it obviously also words in Windows XP SP3).
Summary
It works whereas others don't.

Jesus Christ! The only thing I could say that is wrong is that you cannot write to the Apple partition in Microsoft mode. For instance, I am using Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (french 32-bit edition). I can view/look at my Mac OS X 10.6.8 partition.. all the directories can be seen, "downloaded" through extraction, and the files extracted used. However, when it comes time to modify Mac OS X 10.6.8 files, I am not allowed to do so. I have to say that this might not be such a bad thing for security purposes. For instance, you do not want to accidentally delete your important files that you worked all year long on just because you are doing something as complicated as managing two operating system modes at the same time. I personally LIKE the limitation. However, that is cautious-me talking. (hehe) Well, another benefit is that the extraction process is extremely fast. I have not tried it on more than 14 or so files at a time, however, it has proven to take maybe less than two to three seconds. What more can I say than it is perfect for the Holidays like Christmas especially seeing it is free. Thank you to the creator. Hope you get enough donation to keep it free and keep afloat. Enjoy people.. hopefully ;)
