CNET Editors' review
This tiny and free utility serves up basic reminders, as long as you don't expect any extensive features or functionality. Post-it Software Notes Lite is made by the company that manufactures Post-its, so it's no surprise that this program mimics its real-world counterpart.
For example, if you want to add a new note to your desktop, simply hover over the app's system tray and drag your mouse to peel one off (complete with the appropriate sound). You can change the font size and color of any note's text, but you can't alter the actual color of the note from the classic yellow. Post-it Software Notes Lite has added some features it previously lacked, most notably an alarm that links to your note. If you just want the virtual equivalent of a pad of sticky notes, Post-it Software Notes Lite delivers, though power users likely will crave a full-blown reminder application.
Publisher's Description
From 3M:
What happens when you cross a Post-it note with a computer? You get Post-it Software Notes, the classic yellow note designed for your PC. It's software from the company that invented the Post-it note. This digital version of 3M's famous canary-yellow note is perfect for quick reminders on your computer desktop so you never miss a meeting, event, or thought. With the free Lite version, you can create your own notes with pictures and hyperlinks, stick notes on your computer desktop, and add alarms to your notes as reminders.
Version 3.1.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

"Not as good as 1996 free version"
Version: Post-it Software Notes Lite (Classic) 3.1.1
Pros
At least it does what it says.
Cons
Lacks folders and search. I am still using 1996 v.1.5.320.232 which 3M gave away; a few slight display glitches under WinXP, but better than this v.3 "Classic" which is more limited, and most recent Ver. ?5.x which suffers from rampant featuritis.
Summary
I'll keep on using 1996 Post-it Notes until 3M adds searchable folders to v.3 "Classic" or prunes the code bloat in v.5...

"It's Not Free!"
Version: Post-it Software Notes Lite (Classic) 3.1.1
Pros
Simple easy to use
Has Alarm FunctionCons
It isn't actually free as described by CNET. It is a 30-day trial. I'm not sure that I would want to pay for such a simple program. Guess I'll see in 30 days.
Summary
It isn't actually free as described by CNET. It is a 30-day trial. It will work well for my needs (which are also very simple). I'm not sure that I would want to pay for such a simple program. Guess I'll see in 30 days.

"It's not free as advertised"
Version: Post-it Software Notes Lite (Classic) 3.1.1
Pros
Appears to be a fabulous little tool that is chock full of features.
Cons
Tthe description indicates it's free. As soon as I installed it, the program requested "Buy now" or "Free trial for 30 days." When I clicked on "Buy now," it wants $13.99 to purchase. Regular Post-it notes from Post-it are only $9.99.
Summary
I will decide in the next few days if it is worth $14.

"No UNDO function for DELETING notes"
Version: Post-it Software Notes Lite (Classic) 3.1.1
Pros
Convenient, easy to use
Cons
Ctrl+T is "Trash Note", and if you have a tabbed web browser, you will repeatedly TRASH your post-it notes by accident. There is no dialog box asking if you want to trash your note, and there is no recovering notes after you trash.
-

"Post-It software that does what it's supposed to do."
Version: Post-it Software Notes Lite (Classic) 3.1.1
Pros
Alarm feature, Unlimited number of notes, Resizeable notes, Custom fonts
Cons
Only yellow notes, bland design, some difficulty in moving notes
Summary
This product is useful for people looking to have digital post-its on their computer at no cost to them.

"What were they thinking when they designed this thing??"
Version: Post-it Software Notes Lite (Classic) 3.1.1
Pros
Nice animation for visual feedback. Contains enough features for a basic note-taking utility.
Cons
Difficult to drag notes--doesn't behave like a regular window. Notes DISAPPEAR for no reason. Dragging a note over a Word document causes it to be INSERTED into the document! Cannot drag out--using Word's Undo rids the note--permanently!
Summary
I had high hopes for this product from Post-It, but its unorthodox behaviour had me uninstalling it within 10 minutes. Notes difficult to reposition, then they would mysteriously disappear when you click about. The clincher was Word "eating" the notes as you drag over a Word document (while attempting to reposition). You cannot extricate the note when this happens. The only way is to use Word's Undo, and that seems to destroy the note permanently. Ugh. The animation graphics were a nice touch, but the sound effects were much too loud.
There are plenty of better free note utilities. Best look elsewhere. -
