CNET Editors' review
It's not much to look at, but this program quickly and easily helps users convert files into PDF format, and comes at no cost.
PDFCreator has a very basic interface that won't win it any beauty contests. However, by keeping the visuals to a minimum, users will be able to quickly and easily navigate the program and get right to the task at hand. PDFCreator appears as a small, white, rectangular box with a thin strip of command icons along the top. Here you can print, look at options, navigate your files, and open new files. Below the strip is an open space that displays your selected file's name, size, and status.
After selecting a file for conversion, users are taken to another simple screen. This one asks users to create a file name, creation date, author, keyword and subject for the soon-to-be-created PDF. At the bottom of the screen are commands for saving the PDF or emailing it. The email option instantly adds the PDF as an attachment in your Outlook email.
We were impressed with the speed and ease we converted our files to PDF with PDFCreator. There may be more flashy conversion programs available, or ones that try to do more than this one, but for those just looking for an inexpensive and simple PDF converter, this one fits the bill nicely.
Publisher's Description
From Pdfforge:

"Works as Designed - But Be Careful with Installation"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
Prints PDFs great via its printer driver, can encrypt PDF documents (for which I use alot), and works with Windows 7 x64, Vista x64 and XP (don't know why others can not get it to work - works fine for me)
Cons
Default installation adds crapware such as toolbars. Select custom install and deselect non-product addons
Summary
Excellent PDF printer driver to create PDF documents. I have been using PDFCreator for 4 years without issue (as long as you take my installation advice into account).

"Spyware even when you opt-out... Very disappointed"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
Use to really like this application but just uninstalled the whole thing.
Cons
This contains Spigot spyware! I am actually a little disappointed with CNET as well as this application vendor for not testing the software before posting it for download.
Summary
I am a savvy user and I did uncheck the box asking if I wanted to install teh Yahoo toolbar and it still was installed. And when I went to disable the toolbar it asked me if I also wanted to disable spyware from Spigot - sorry but #$%. I actually created a CNET user ID just so I could post this review. Good luck.

"It creates PDFs"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
It creates PDF quickly, works on Windows 98
Cons
Not as good as the version 8, that came out in 2005? I couldn't get the encryption to work. in the latest version, no problem with the earlier version
Summary
Use some other program. If you use Open Office it has a good PDF exporter, and it is also the same price --- free. You also get quite a few more functions with it.
After trying to remove this from a Windows 98 system, I would say don't even attempt to install it. Probably the version 8 was ok, but this one stay away from! If you only need occasional PDF files use Open Office, 123PDFConverter seems to be working ok, but again, why not use Open Office? Say CNET was right in recommending OO!

Updated on Dec 6, 2010I am going to raise my rating to 4 stars, I would almost have to since it is what I use most of the time on Windows XP, and the only thing on Windows 7. The later versions do work on Windows 7. So, when you don't have a printer around, this is a handy program to have. -
"For this you get spyware"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
So far I'm so irritated by browser redirect to a Yahoo search page that came bundled with this software that I just uninstalled the whole thing.
Cons
Unless you want to search Yahoo for everything every time you try to go to a web page, then don't bother.
Summary
This product received such good reviews that I thought I would try it. I never got to try it. I don't have time for such nonsense and refuse to do business with companies who do. Maybe CNET should be on that list too.

"Simple and easy to use PDF Creator for Windows XP"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
Creates PDF files for free. I'm glad I discovered this product before I invested $400+ in Acrobat.
Cons
It would be helpful to have some directions on how to use the program. After the program is installed, a window containing a toolbar and a blank table opens. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to use the program.
Summary
PDF Creator works great for what I need. It is easy to use once you figure out how to use it. Directions would be helpful.

Free of chargeCons
Latest version containts malware toolbar that gets installed without your permission and hijacks your browser.
-
"Top-notch single- or multi-page PDF printing"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
I use PDFCreator to create large, complex PDFs from CAD and word processing applications. PDFCreator does a great job of creating these PDFs. PDFCreator can be used to create single-page or multi-page PDFs, and works as a collating engine.
Cons
Once you've got all the pages up, you must select them all in the PDFCreator window and combine them, then save the final file as a PDF. This dialog is not the most intuitive design out there.
Summary
It's free and it does good work. It works on Windows 7 x64, Vista, XP... and it obviates the need to spend $400 for Acrobat. Other than PDFFactory, there are few products that do what PDFCreator does for free.

"Does not work with Windows 7"
Version: PDFCreator 0.9.9
Pros
There are none.
Cons
I tried to create a PDF, and after several tries, tried the Windows 7 troubleshooting support and found out PDFCreator 0.9.9 doesn't work with Windows 7.
