From Convar:
PC Inspector File Recovery is a data recovery program that supports the FAT 12/16/32 and NTFS file systems. Finds partitions automatically, even if the boot sector or FAT has been erased or damaged (does not work with the NTFS file system). Recovers files with the original time and date stamp. Supports the saving of recovered files on network drives.

"Just used version 4 on my Vista laptop."
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
It's free. And worked like a champ on my low-lev el formatted SD card. And did I mention it's free?!
Cons
Slightly quirky interface, but not hard to figure out...
Summary
I tried an outfit called Art Plus, also touted as free. After a lengthy recovery process, it wanted your $20 before you could actually get your files back. They're still waiting....
Convar, parent of these PC Inspector folks, delivers the good. They got my vote! -
"Fast, free and easy to use: recovered my files in minutes"
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
It has an uncluttered interface and got straight to work unearthing all the deleted files it could find. It's then down to you to search on the filename (or part of it). In my case my daughter had edited and saved a Word file in the "Temporary Internet Data" folder and discovered the folder had been emptied the next time she tied to open the file. So it wasn't a deliberately deleted file - but anyway the program worked - brilliantly.

"Superb-free"
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
Easy, fast, effective and free. And yes, there is now a new version (4.0) which you can find at pcinspector.de/download.asp?language=1#file_recovery
Cons
Version 3.0: The interface is a little bit numb, you dont always know if the program is running or not.

"Pretty good, but not perfect"
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
Generally easy interface although aspects could be clearer and file saving could be easier. Recovered more files than any other software I tried. Works on hard drives and flash.
Cons
Files recovered often weren't usable - including the ones I wanted!
-
"Excellent! Found the files, restored the files - FREE."
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
It scanned a USB drive and found the files (.DAA) in milliseconds. Gig size files take awhile to restore but it didn't hesitate and pointed to a different drive so no overwriting would take place.

-
"Unfortunatly did not work for me"
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
The product was free. Many goog reviews.
Cons
It did not work at all and finally I had to download GetDataBack who worked perfectly .

"Recovered some files I thought were lost forever"
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
Ease of install and use. Price, obviously. Ability to take my trashed hard drive and recover anything at all.
Cons
Lack of diagnostic tools or some way of trying to salvage, but this was minor for how much it did for me for nothing.
-
"Full file recovery from my flash disk."
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
Recovered all files on flash disk drive (FAT format). Accidentally deleted partition while installing windows.
Cons
Found the menu somewhat confusing. Default menu should expain options. During recovery, gave "access violation" error and crashed. Had to re-start program but it worked flawlessly the second time. Due to free price, still maintain five stars. Would otherwise give 4.15 stars.

"FANTASTIC"
Version: PC Inspector File Recovery 3.0
Pros
I stupidly tried moving files between 2 drives on a Win2k3Svr that failed and 'lost' the source data. This little program found it for me in less than 2 minutes and I was able to make a full recovery.
Cons
I found it easy enough, but I wouldn't describe it as 'intuitive'.
