The program lets you do almost everything Acrobat Professional can, from converting any document into PDF to designing full-blown PDFs from scratch. Inserting a bookmark, a stamp, an image, a form, or even a JavaScript is a snap with NitroPDF. It supports all security and annotation features as well. The bundled Nitro PDF Direct utility lets you convert batches of documents. The interface is reminiscent of Adobe Acrobat, except icons. The 30-day trial suffices to found out whether NitroPDF offers all the functionality you expect from a PDF creation tool.Publisher's description

"functional - but the spam will kill you!"

Version: Nitro PDF Professional 5.4.1
Pros: Comparably cheap.
Cons: Export to JPG/PNG usually generates an all black output, and utterly constant crashes especially when working with Forms. On a newly reinstalled XP sp3.
The ribbon is cool but it also makes it hard to find functionality. And crop sucks.Summary: If not for all the freaking crashes, the price would easily induce me and my company to switch to this. But for now it's unusable.

"Deceptive company tactics, buggy software, poor choice."
Pros: It's cheaper than Adobe's bloatware
Cons: It's only slightly less bloated than Adobe's software, buggy, still relatively expensive, hard to use, and missing some key features. Nitro PDF also has deceptive support and marketing practices.
Summary: Beware of the rave "review" on planetpdf.com as it's a website created by Nitro PDF to promote their products. Also beware you'll get lots of spam from Nitro PDF with no legally required link to unsubscribe in the e-mails.

Version: Nitro PDF Professional 5.4.1
"Great alternative to overpriced Adobe products!"
Pros: Does everything. Easy to use. Value priced. (Better markup options than Zeon product... and better create pdf options like scan to pdf)
Cons: No Vista x64 version yet (knowledge base at site says available by end of '08)
Interface takes some getting used to... a little too creative. But fast and efficient after a little use.Summary: If you're looking for alternative to Adobe Acrobat (R) (TM) and are not using a 64 bit OS, this product deserves a serious look. x64 users will have to wait a while yet (I hear it rumored that XP x64 does work w/NitroPDF, but I also hear it doesn't,... read more >>

Version: Nitro PDF Professional 5.4.1
"NOT A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT JUST YET."
Pros: Cheap.
Some good features such as combining different documents in different file formats into one PDF document.Cons: Nitro Professional has the potential to be a professional product, but is inadequate at this time. Nitro Professional does NOT include OCR functionality at this time (planned for 2009).
Summary: I had to purchase Adobe Acrobat to get the ?scan to a text searchable PDF" feature. I purchased Nitro Professional based on the excellent review by CNET, but am very disappointed that I did. You should know that it will cost you $10 each time you ... read more >>
