CNET Editors' review
The ambitious, ground-up rebuild of Microsoft Office Standard 2007 presents drastically different interfaces and new file formats. The new Office looks so unlike its predecessors, it's likely to spark intense love-hate responses from users. This upgrade isn't for everyone: If you're patient, eager to try the latest tools, and willing to relearn most of what you already know about Office, then you may relish the challenge.
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 can produce more polished documents and presentations, and Outlook's new scheduling abilities make it a handier communications hub. Professionals who want to impress clients and co-workers with attractive reports, charts, and slide shows will find this a worthy upgrade.
It offers complex features that you can't yet find elsewhere, but also falls short in key areas. Inter-application integration isn't as thorough as we'd hoped, and there's no one-click way to collaborate with others on an edit without buying more software. Despite its bevy of Windows Live and Office Live services, Microsoft chose not to build a bridge to the Web for all Office users. A growing number of competing tools are simpler, cost less or are free, and handle the same core features.
We imagine that power users who have mastered the nooks and crannies of the older versions will curse the steep learning curve. But take heed: The new era of Office affects even those who don't upgrade, and a conversion tool is needed to let older Office versions open Office 2007's default, Open XML files.
Publisher's Description
From Microsoft:

In addition to the core desktop editions, the 2007 release includes new programs, servers, and services that build on the productivity software skills your employees already possess. Used together, the Microsoft Office system can help you address business needs ranging from personal productivity management to complex project management.
The Microsoft Office Standard suite includes Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint 2007, and Microsoft Office Word 2007.

".5 stars for the redesign alone"
Version: Microsoft Office Standard 2007
Pros
The sheer maddening frustration of trying to figure out where all the new controls alone... oh wait you asked for pros.
If it wasn't for the fact this is being used at work I would stop using this crap and switch to a free app like Google docs.Cons
Whoever redesigned these applications should be lined up and shot. Really is one of the worst design changes I've ever experienced and the sole reason for the review.
Summary
Why MS??? Why would you make something so F****** painful to work with regarding a transition of this magnitude.
I hate you.... I swear I'd Nancy Kerrigan your ass if I could. -
"VERY UNIMPRESSED"
Version: Microsoft Office Standard 2007
Pros
Required update for work and school.
Cons
My free trial was ridiculous. My powerpoint and word document wouldn't change text or shape color. Pretty hard to make a nice presentation for class with no color!! This didn't give me much incentive to buy the real version. NOT HAPPY.
Summary
Don't depend on this program for ANYTHING but writing plain black text papers.

"Maybe but probably not"
Version: Microsoft Office Standard 2007
Pros
Nothing really. It only looks like something you would want to buy!
Cons
Openoffice.org can do the same job and is free so Microsoft have some thinking!
Summary
I didn't find it useful at all, mainly because I had to pay for it and Openoffice.org can do a better job for much cheaper. It sucks!

"Best version yet, can't wait for 2010 in June!"
Version: Microsoft Office Standard 2007
Pros
You can literally build a book for publishing , paginated , bibliographed, indexed, footnoted, crop marks, pictures in place, numbered, etc. Truly great software.
I've have been using Microsoft products since Coreldraw 3, that's a long time.Cons
4 Cons, 1.Minimal manipulation, i.e. Adobe/Corel.
2.Price, make savvy users go open source, free & good.
3.Size, leftover crap, uninstall files, etc., using space.
4.Pay for disc after download? $0. to download!Summary
Otherwise GREAT! Rumor is that they are getting rid of Publisher... or is 2010 going to have Publisher interleaved into Word? If that's the case, it would make 2010 incredible! A bit more photo / vector / video / audio / image manipulation tools and you win! Forget those programs out there and they know who they are, not be-grudging anyone from making a living but to make a movie / video or magazine or mobile phone ad, or webpage and offer Cloud computing.
Microsoft will be losing market share due to the pricing stucture of their own new products and the fact than you are always charged "Extra" to own the disc version you just downloaded and paid for...that's actually kept me from purchasing some of your products in the past. -
"The best Microsoft product"
Version: Microsoft Office Standard 2007
Pros
Needs less system resources than last version, and it is a lot easier to use, not to mention that you can make very good-looking documents with it.
Cons
In comparison with another office suite, it has no integrated "Export to .pdf" function.
Summary
I think this suite is a must-have to all people that use a computer, if there are people that didn't actually upgraded by now, they really should cause they don't know what their missing.
