With MagicBerry Blackberry IPD & BBB Editor and Converter you can convert, parse and edit Blackberry IPD and BBB database file. Split and merge records and extract SMS, contacts, phone calls log, and service books to CSV or text files. You can use MagicBerry for editing the database and upload and save it in the IPD/BBB file. Makes it possible to actually view the backed up files on a computer, thereby making the backup have a purpose!

The file provided on the MagicBerry home page did not work so I had to find it elsewhere
When viewed in excel the text messages are listed next to the number they came from/went to without the contact's name next to it.
It is extremely basicSummary
This is useful as a last resort. I am looking for something else. I wouldn't object to paying a few quid for a bit of software that has similar functionality to the stuff provided by Nokia when getting a phone from them.

"Recovered Blackberry backup's .BBB encrypted Memo text"

Pros
Exactly what I needed: converts Blackberry backup Memos to text. The backup is garbled/encrypted as is, cannot be read by any usual readers. Only a decoder can recover the text and allow copying to another application or device.
Cons
took a while to find it. Should be #1 on Google search
Summary
I switched from Blackberry Curve to an Apple iPhone. Most of the apps I used were available upon plug into computer using Blackberry Desktop. However, Memos were not visible anywhere. Of course I backed up the BB before switching, assuming I could easily transfer the Memos to my laptop...NOT! After hours of trying various strategies, including connection by Internet, no luck. Then I googled convert .bbb files site:www.cnet.com. There at the top of the list was MagicBerry. A quick download and installation, and the Memos were available as text. I copied to a Google Doc for safekeeping. Will figure out how to add to iPhone later. A non-cnet search turned up programs for $50 or more.

Instruction manual leaves something to be desired.
Time Zone listing could stand to have names attached to it: I do not know offhand what my offset is for GMT

I've used this program before without any issuse but since blackberry has changed the file format to .bbb it won't open the file

I keep getting "error parsing the , couldn't read the records Error" I don't know why this is happening?! Incredibly frustrating!

Summary
My blackberry flat out broke and my contacts didn't transfer from the sim card to my new phone. This program obviously let me access the backup files (.ipd) and I got all my important contacts back, no worries. Don't pay for stuff like this ever, you can get it for free.
