"Works great, and im happy with it."

July 16, 2013  |  By heil_Argentina

 |  Version: JDownloader 0.9581

Pros

So far in 3 months i have had no problems and thats a great PRO.
Downloads are normally fast, as an example right now im downloading music from youtube in mp3 format, the video in youtube is 1h long, but the download with JD has an estimated time of 15min to complete the download with my internet speed.
It lets me download from a lot of diferent sites, more than most youtube downloaders i have tried.
My antivirus and antimalware had never found any virus or malware since i installed and that gives me peace of mind.
Its also great for downloading movies from movie sites or from file hosting sites, and not to worry if your internet conection is lost because JD will continue the download from where it was.

Cons

I wish it had more options (for quality) when you want to download in mp3 format.
Maybe it does but i dont know how to set it.
I recomend you to youtube tutorials, you need to know 2 or 3 steps and its super easy to use once you know the basics.

Summary

I think that people claming that it "contains malware" is people from other downloaders or paid downloaders... I have had jdownloader for 3 months already and had no problems, my anti virus(McAfee) never got any type of virus, and my antimalware too.
I dont remember if it promp you to install toolbars and crap like that (like any free program does) but when you install make sure you clear all the boxes and read before clicking "NEXT" to avoid installing extra crap you dont need.
Im sorry for my bad english :p but i hope it helps you. Good luck, cheers!

"Contains bloatware and malware"

May 16, 2013  |  By Mindstyle06

 |  Version: JDownloader 0.9581

Pros

None that I found

Cons

Installs a ton of bloatware in spite of you rejecting terms and conditions not to allow the installation of the programs.
Installs browserprotect which is signaled as a malware.
Installs Delta toolbar (with no indication)

Summary

Use Freerapid downloader instead.

"I've used it for a long time."

January 08, 2013  |  By 123959

 |  Version: JDownloader 0.9581

Pros

> Frequently updated by developers and automatically downloads updates while running.
> Works with almost every "file hosting" service I've found, including sites with subscriptions.
> Works with some other sites (i.e. bandcamp, soundcloud)
> Extensive user options and features, I'll list a few:
> Download speed limit
> Max simultaneous downloads
> Automatic archive extraction
> Automatic clipboard parsing
> Others

Cons

> Some plugins may not work or may have bugs (i.e. youtube)
> It's Java.
> High memory usage

Summary

I've used this program for a few years now and it's a lot better than any other download manager I've tried. It's really nice if you want to download a lot of things from sites with waiting times or just want to continue a list of downloads while you're away/busy and don't feel like concerning yourself with them.

"contains malware!!!"

January 05, 2013  |  By backovbeyond

 |  Version: JDownloader 0.9581

Pros

Was once a great downloader but now (see below)

Cons

For the last two months JD contains very bad malware "SweetIm", which installs itself regardless of user preference. Just check the JD messageboards and be disgusted by their response.

Summary

avoid

"It can but can't"

October 21, 2012  |  By DaDreamWizard

 |  Version: JDownloader 0.9581

Pros

1 click downloader that works with hosting sites most of the time, at least until the site changes.

Cons

Many. Besides being java based there is a problem with the UI. The graphics & how used definitely does not work with all video drivers. They realize this problem over 4 years (or more) and said they were going to fix. At the time (and still) they offer an alternative executable to replace Jdownloader.exe. It's titled JdownloaderD3D.exe. You can delete the original Jdownloader.exe.

The problem with the original exe is that it just freezes your system depending on your graphics card and drivers. Substituting exe's fixes the problem, it does... Until program updates get streamed to you. While updating it adds the original exe and runs it causing systems to freeze again.

A freeze is as bad, if not worse then not letting a windows machine shut down. It's like pulling the plug, period.

Summary

In case nobody notices, their actual executable is the same as it was ages ago, the version is truly the same. It's old and seriously flawed, they know it, created an extra exe as a fix which get's defeated the MOMENT the program updates itself.

Their updating idea is superb. Their initial programming sucks because of it's not being compatible with some of the most common graphic subsystems. Is it the use of java? My system is java perfect. (Liking java is another issue.)

like many of you I build my system from the ground up. I do a lot with a pc, but I also game hard as do many of you. So to say that many have systems similar to mine will have problems with Jdownloader.

Hey, they built the alternative exe, so nothing I said here is an opinion or construed by me. Maybe their programmer died. A damn shame cause they have the right idea like no other I have seen.

"Hate it because its Java based..."

May 28, 2012  |  By Gawlron

 |  Version: JDownloader 0.9581

Pros

Fast, small, integrates well into environment.

Cons

Crashes often, it's look for a specific JRE - which is why Java sucks.

Summary

Get a real Window binary file, written and compiled to run by itself, not JIT - JIT is a bad idea... If you don't know what JIT is, don't reply on my comment.

Pros

Installed this on several computers, I either don't know what i am doing or it don't know what it is supposed to do.

Cons

Big download, with little results. Does not capture or grab anything as far as I can tell. Cut and pasted URl like it says, and nothing happens.

Summary

Either its junk, or i don't know how to use it.
